Someone doesn't like what is being said they automatically say "oh this topic should be locked". I thought this was a forum, a rant and rave, a place to voice your thoughts and opinions. Just because someone doesn't agree with you or you don't like what is being said doesn't mean the topic needs to be locked. I'm so sick of seeing it.
I agree with you. I've seen topics locked on RUG by the OP for so many trivial reasons...
Granted, if a thread has completely gone in the direction of being toxic and has lost any edifying value whatsoever, I have no problem with it being locked. But I'll be blunt: I think we have a lot of sensitive people on Riley Underground who take disagreement as a personal insult, and even more who lack simple Debate 101 skills (I make a point, you make a counterpoint, you make a point, I make a counterpoint). Instead things turn into:
"I feel this way." "And I feel this way." "Well you suck because you don't feel the same way I do." "Well you're an idiot." "Well you suck too!"
Oh I totally agree about locking topics when it goes haywire, but when it is just people expressing opinions and such then, well thats nature lol its like the saying goes " opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and they all stink"
I agree, Im so sick of people saying "this topic should be locked" its like if they dont like what others are saying they want it locked. Blah Blah Blah
Usually because they had something bad said to them that hurt their feelings & they don't want it to continue lol...I say put on your big girl panties...
Oh I couldnt agree more, it gets so annoying when people always want to lock a topic just because they dont agree with it...I just want to tell them, so sorry the world doesnt revolve around you
MODS are used to getting messages asking to lock certain topics. If they don't violate RUG rules the I'm sorry we are just as helpless as the person asking for the topic to be removed. Mods catch a lot of crap from people asking to lock topics but we have managed to stand firm on what is to be deleted. And I think we have all come to terms that no matter what it will be our fault..lol
we have all come to terms that no matter what it will be our fault..lol
agreed ..when things get heated and the only comeback is well "grow up" or "haters", or "get a life" or worse personal insult to someone you dont know...well you should rethink debating on a public forum or keep your opinion to yourself as not everyone agrees
Oh didn't you get the RUG memo? EVERYTHING is the mod's fault. As a matter of fact I wish all three of you would stop this crappy weather from moving in!! Geez...you guys NEVER do anything!! :-)
But seriously, I think someone said it earlier; people get their feelings hurt and forget to be pragmatic in their arguments. I know that I have personally seen a few responses where people seem to attack instead of stating their opinion. Once someone feels attacked it is all down hill from that point.
I know that I personally suggested that a topic be locked for two reasons: 1. It was the third topic on the same subject in so many days, and 2. Both of the other threads had gone awry and I figured it would be easier to stop the third thread before it headed south!
but not every single one just because someone got butt hurtÂ
Thats usually the only ones people want locked haha. We try to lock the bad ones but some of them are not worth locking at all. Whatever I'm over it :P
Lmao I sooooooo agree DP. Especially the ones who have claimed they left RUG but are really just under a different screen name.
Can't forget the ones who follow you from thread to thread just because they don't like you, and then throw out there that you are the one holding grudges....lol got to love hypocricy.

Do you really think this happens often? Or at all?
