My husband is going to korea this spring. Is there any advice to give? I would like to know what to send in care packages that they cant get over there, also what should he bring, lines of communucation, etc? Thanks 

My husband has been in Korea since July and I went to visit last month. They can pretty much get everything that they need while there. Depending on where hes starioned, some things may be limited compared to other bases. I haven't had to send my husband anything specific, just little things that the kids have made for him, etc. my husband and I talk pretty much every morning and night over an app called oovoo, which is very similar to Skype, but seems to work much better. He has also downloaded an app called firetalk I believe and calls me from that as well if he isn't home. Feel free to pm me or ask anything else you'd like to know and ill try my best to answer.

Yes he has a Korean cell phone. You pretty much have to have a cell just like they do in the US. 

So he gets there and gets a cell. How does that work on my end? I dont want a huge cell bill from sprint for calling korea or accepting calls. What do i need? 

I'm glad you posted this bc my husband is leaving for Korea on Saturday. How much is his monthly cell service? I'm not worried about him being able to call me bc we have Skype and can talk over that but he says he needs the phone for work. We were lucky to get an approval from Picerne to let us stay in housing but I don't want to add a bunch of bills every month while he's there 

My husband had a prepaid phone. It wasn't very pricey. Since he only used it for work calls. A lot of times guys leaving will give there phones to the new guys. 

was it prepaid like phone cards or prepaid like the walmart straight talk phones? He has a phone we bought for walmart straight talk so I'm wondering if he can just use the phone he has already 

He can download an app called firetalk to his normal smartphone and he can call you for free on your normal phone plan from what i understand 

lol he doesn't have a smart phone and I'm not too worried about him calling me or me calling him since we have computers and tablets with Skype. I'm trying to find out bc he says he needs a phone for work so we're not worried about international phone plans just something he can use locally.

My hub got his phone and plan inside the px through a popular company in Korea and he pays like $65 a month. He has a govt phone as well but only uses it for work purposes and had already signed a contract before he was issued it. But it works out bc he calls me from this personal one! 

wait what do you mean a government phone? Is that available for all soldiers stationed there or does he have it just because of his job or rank, etc? 

I know not all are issued one, it may be bc of job and or rank. Im not completely sure though. More than likely he would need to get a personal phone bc the govt one could be taken to give to someone else if their job or duty changes.

My husband left for Korea yesterday. He's still stuck in Seattle waiting to head out but my question is are there computer labs over there? He doesn't know if his stuff arrived yet so we want to make sure we can talk when he gets there and settled. I tried searching online but couldn't really find anything
