3lilmen --- 14 years ago -

wut strike haha really?

Angie33 --- 14 years ago -

I won't be buying any gas tomorrow but I doubt it will do much good anyway :( I think they have us by the cajones.

Angie33 --- 14 years ago -

Here are the details:

OKAY! WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!! Gas Strike March 10th! This worked once before...let's try it again. On March 10 if everyone does not buy gas for one day, it will hurt the oil companies. It's time we stood up to them. We CAN have a voice...REMEMBER "MARCH" 10th DO NOT BUY GAS! Please repost this to as many people as you can...it is urgent that this spreads like wildfire!

PS: Try not to fill up the day before or after so that this day will have an impact on the companies

They lose money guess what there gunna do to make up for that lost money? You got it... raise gas prices. So who does it hurt in the end? Us. Its pointless.

militarybrat --- 14 years ago -

sorry wont be doing it i need gas in my car

Cindy --- 14 years ago -

That's exactly what I'm saying. There's no way it's going to do any good.

notsue --- 14 years ago -

I dont recall this ever working... we used to do it often in Cali. The day after everyone just has a even better sales day. The only thing that will work is that if you actually consume less, and thats what I've been doing.

Liss51 --- 14 years ago -

Opps filled up my tank today

~*BrinA*~ --- 14 years ago -

~*BrinA*~ --- 14 years ago -

The prices are high because we have Sh!t for brains politicians who wont drill here in the US...

I say DRILL BABY, DRILL!!!

LuVmYsMalLfAmIlY --- 14 years ago -

dude that crap is only going to effect is all, so stupid, i mean seriously were all gonna have to make up for that crap.. save yourself the time cause honestly your not even gonna budge what it takes for them to loose money lol you know how many billions of dollars tehy make in one day? its not just the gas you put in your cars duhhh its the gas that you use for heat and everything.. so pointless and it never works, dont they try to do that like every year?

~*BrinA*~ --- 14 years ago -

Everyone is gonna have to go get gas the next day anyway so its not going to make a difference. Then think of the lines?! lol

thats why i will go put gas in my car tomorrow since i hope there wont be no lines at all LOL

The US Geological service estimates there are 50 billion barrels of oil under the US. We would use that up in a little less than two days. And it would take much much longer to drill it.

We need to place our focus on alternatives before we do run out, not go looking for more to suck dry.

notsue --- 14 years ago -

We drill plenty already, but more wouldnt hurt. But we dont utilize the wells we already have. We arent gonna run out, they found out its not the fosil fuel they thought it was, it does replenish, and again, theres tons. But again again, we dont get what we can from the wells we already have...

mrscope --- 14 years ago -

Cindy you are right, im asking myself why there are no busses on post for the soldiers at least to bring them to work and pick them up.
That would save alot! There are so many ways to save and be more on the "green side"

There is A LOT more than that...dont think BILLION with a "B" think TRILLION... and NO we wouldnt use up 50 BILLION gallons of oil in two days.. we use about 3.7 billion a YEAR...

Read...

Why are we importing so much oil when we have more than enough to sustain us here in the U.S.? Dunner99.blogspot.com points out that, The United States imports approximately 3.67 billion barrels of oil every year from 42 different countries. We are the top consumer of crude oil in the world. An AP article on news.yahoo.com states that, a new drilling technique is opening up vast fields of previously out-of-reach oil in the western United States, helping reverse a two-decade decline in domestic production of crude.

Companies are investing billions of dollars to get at oil deposits scattered across North Dakota, Colorado, Texas and California. By 2015, oil executives and analysts say, the new fields could yield as much as 2 million barrels of oil a day more than the entire Gulf of Mexico produces now.

This new drilling is expected to raise U.S. production by at least 20 percent, or a million barrels per day, over the next five years. And within 10 years, it could help reduce oil imports by more than half, advancing a goal that has long eluded policymakers.

Even before this latest revelation we had vast reserves in the form of oil shale, According to globalpetroleumclub.com, America's oil shale reserves are enormous, totaling at least 1.5 trillion barrels of oil. That's five times the reserves of Saudi Arabia! And yet, no one is producing commercial quantities of oil from these vast deposits. All that oil is still sitting right where God left it, buried under the vast landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming. Obviously, there are some very real obstacles to oil production from shale. After all, if it was such a good thing, we'd be doing it already, right? "Oil shale is the fuel of the future, and always will be," goes a popular saying in Western Colorado.

But what if we could safely and economically get our hands on all that oil? Imagine how the world might change. The U.S. would instantly have the world's largest oil reserves. Imaginehaving so much oil we'd never have to worry about Saudi Arabia again, or Hugo Chavez, or the mullahs in Tehran. And instead of ships lined up in L.A.'s port to unload cheap Chinese goods, we might see oil tankers lined up waiting to export America's tremendous oil bounty to the rest of the world. The entire geopolitical and economic map of the world would change and the companies in the vanguard of oil shale development might make hundreds of billions of dollars as they convert America's untapped shale reserves into a brand new energy revolution. A new study says drilling on Alaska's Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) could make Alaska the eighth largest oil resource province in the world ahead of Nigeria, Libya, Russia and Norway.

The report by the consulting firm Northern Economics and the University of Alaska-Anchorage's Institute of Social and Economic Research says that developing Alaska's OCS could produce almost 10 billion barrels of oil and 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, create around 55,000 new jobs and produce $145 billion in new payroll nationally, generating a total of $193 billion in government revenue through the year 2057. After reading all this anyone that feels we need to continue importing oil is out of their mind. Energy independence is in our reach all we need to do is cut through all the red tape.

Didn't read all the replies but a gas strike will never work. Everyone has to go to work so someone will get gas and it doesn't really effect anyone bit the local owners of the gas stations. Write congress or something. Harass the crap put of them and maybe they will look into it. Or make a vechicle that runs on cow poo. I saw that on a show once haha.

Kayce --- 14 years ago -

I agree with this so much! We Share a car so we use alot of gas if i have to take him if i need the car or the back and forth during the day. That would be awesome!

The worst part about this is yet to come. Not only the gas prices raised but if they stay up then the grocery prices with raise along with other items that are transported around the world. last big gas rise milk was up to 5$ a gallon!

Cindy --- 14 years ago -

grocery prices with raise along with other items that are transported around the world

Actually, grocery prices are at an all time high now. I'm subscribed to a few food blogs that were talking about it today.

And I looked at the chart wrong, we use 20.5 million barrels a day, not billion. Apologies for any confusion.

The truth is, nobody really knows how much we really have. Estimates are all across the board.

The way to "protest" oil prices isn't to just not fill your tank on a certain day, but reduce your consumption by walking or biking instead of driving everywhere.

I saw on a show once where some college kids took a regular car and transformed it to run off basically trash. It wasnt electric and it didnt run off of gas. The vehicle was taken once word got out. Now if some college kids can do this in their spare time, the government sure can too but they chose not to. They make too much money with oil

TexasMama020507 --- 14 years ago -

I wish it was as easy as to just drill here but its not the amount of oil its the fact that oil has to be refined to be used for gas. So not only would they have to drill here in the U.S but they will also need to open/expand several refineries with the capability to handle the production. So we are catching it two ways thanks to the whole OPEC and trade. Instead of most of our oil coming from here they are buying and refining it overseas which then incurs even more costs due to having to have it shipped. On a side note if you watch the news the earthquakes in Arkansas are thought to be caused by natural gas drilling. So they need to be careful on the way they do drill here in the U.S.

These things honestly never work...everyone just gets gas the day before or after... this isn't like the 70's where the truckers stopped buying diesel for 3 days - now THAT made prices drop!

I guess I'll be getting gas today since the lines will be short! :P
