So there are a few words on facebook that everyone spells different... for instance definetly, i see it spelled definetly, definatly, or defenetly. without using spell check, which is right??

also vacuum, is it vacuum, vaccum, or vaccuum??

just something funny to talk about...what word do you always see spelled wrong??

Hope (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

vacuum, and definitely

sometimes when people misuse were, we're, where --it gets irritating, but i guess they dont teach some of this anymore

ALL of the above annoy me but my latest pet peeve is people using "sale" instead of "sell".

i.e. "I'm looking for someone saleing xyz" or "I need to sale XYZ"

LvnLife --- 14 years ago -

I love when people are getting rid of their animals and dont know how to spell their breeds.
Ex: " Dotson", or "Chiwawa" LOL

Bwhahahahahaha!

jazzy --- 14 years ago -

well ok, since you brought it up LOL....here goes. These don't technically have spelling mistakes but are misused a whole lot.

People writing there instead of they're or their.

Like Taj pointed out, rot iron, sounds like rotting iron which I don't even know if it's possible lol.

Coarse is another one. Instead of saying course.

I hate to say it, but then and than is another one misused or misplaced a whole lot.

And then about this next one, I wanted to ask you guys for real, I honestly am not sure. I started to second guess myself a loooong time ago because I see almost everyone doing it, but I thought it was supposed to be for example, "Larry and me", and not "Larry and I". I see it in people's pictures, sentences and everything. Here's what I mean.

The way I was taught was that when in doubt, you are supposed to take all others out of the sentence (in your head) and then imagine it with just yourself and if it sounds incorrect then that is when you'll know when to say "Larry and me", or "Larry and I".
Like under alot of peoples pictures they write ..."Here's Jenna and I at the club." So if you take Jenna out of the equation, and just try saying it with yourself like, "Here's I at the club"....then you know it's wrong. So shouldn't it be "Here's Jenna and me at the club."...?

Or if you were to say, "Will you join Jenna and I for lunch today?" Isn't it supposed to be "Will you join Jenna and me for lunch today?"
Man I swear I see and hear celebrities and educated people do it all the time, which makes me think I'm crazy LOL.

Does anyone know that rule or know what I'm talking about? If you do could you please tell me, seriously, because I have had this conversation before with friends and they always act like I'm wrong or don't know what the heck I'm talking about!
Somebody out there holla if you hear me lol.

It bothers me when people misuse grammar altogether. For example, "I got mines at this store." When that statement should be "I got MINE at this store." Or when people say things like hurted instead of hurt. Ain't is another big one for me. "I aint got no..." You'd think, since people are SO into english being the national language, they would AT LEAST know it.

jazzy --- 14 years ago -

Well I guess some people just don't know any better, but I think some people say things like that during a lighthearted conversation or to try to be funny or cute. Not that mines is cute, but I've told my sister she's the bestest! I know that it's incorrect but I say it with love...that type of thing.

Ain't just plain sounds cool sometimes instead of being so proper. Sometimes it just "flows" better, like in a song for instance. Know what I mean?
But I get what you're saying though.
And I have a really bad habit of saying and writing "cause" instead of saying because. Pure laziness...no other reason lol.

to two too! there, their, they're, thur :-D...People here get more upset when I use big word. I love the looks I get when using words like "Heterosexual" (means strait/straight) ;-)

Ain't is in the dictionary... So I guess it's a word now but then again there are a lot of words in the dictionary that shouldn't be.... But I'm not sure on the I/ me... I give up and put we " here we are at the club." lol
