I have heard about places offering free meals for Vets, active duty, and retired within the next week. Just wanted to pass it along for those of us who need a break from cooking. i believe you need your ID to get the perk.

Eat Free at Applebee's
Military veterans and active-duty servicemembers will be able to eat for free at any Applebee's across the U.S. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2010. There will be six entres from the menu to choose from.

Military Eat Free at Golden Corral
November 15, 2010 from 5-9pm Golden Corral's Military Appreciation Monday dinner. The free meal is a special "thank you tribute" to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. Includes dinner buffet and beverage. All Golden Corral restaurants nationwide participate in this event.

Salute from Outback Steakhouse
As an expression of Outback Steakhouse's appreciation to our Country's veterans and active duty military*, a free Bloomin' Onion and beverage of choice (one non-alcoholic drink or one draft Anheuser Busch beer) will be available to them at every Outback in the country on Veterans Day.

Hey just wanted to add that I seen the car wash on hwy 77 is doing free car washs for military on thursday also.

AmandaJB --- 14 years ago -

Hyvee is doing a free breakfast for service members as well on the 11th.

fuzzysgirl08 --- 14 years ago -

Does anyone know if family members can also participate in the free offers, or if they apply to us as well?

AmandaJB --- 14 years ago -

My understanding is it is for the active duty member or veteran only.

K just wanted to make sure before I take my husband out if I would need to bring money for my meal as well :)

LvnLife --- 14 years ago -

Well my hubby has Staff Duty, so nothing free for him:(

I think its GREAT that they are doing free meals for the military. The stinky part is that the spouses are not included in this. It just ticks me off(could be just my lousy mood today) that we are not recognized for our contribution at all. If I was not doing what I do by taking care of my family, my husband could not do his job with a toot. His mind would not be fully on doing his job. I think we should at least get a discount if nothing else. Probably opened up a huge can of worms with this one.

nope I agree with you joyce.. we don't get much recognition.. But, everything can't be free for all of us on Vet. day cause the companies would probably go broke lol im glad however and thankful that they are recognizing at LEAST the vets

joyce --- 14 years ago -

Yup I agree.. that's probably why they don't offer it to use. Shoot in my pissy mood I never looked at that way. Thanks for the in site Briana. LOL

Thats sad... I would like to see how awesome this place are for doing what they are doing AND how good the food is

Penny Lane --- 14 years ago -

but it never fails good things never get good praise. just look back the rolling hills zoo.

giffs fam --- 14 years ago -

Who cares if the food is crappy or not its the fact that they are doing something special for these veterans that deserve it!!

Party Of Five --- 14 years ago -

Wow, lol just *for the record,* I'm the one who started the Rolling Hills thread last month...and we aren't part of the CAB, so we did not get in FREE...not to mention that the point of my post wasn't about that specific day, but moreso about how disappointed we were with the Zoo in general. It sucked, to be honest...don't think we'll be going back.
Anyway...back to the subject, yes its awesome that the vets get free meals but I gotta admit that thought crossed me mind, too, Joyce...especially since my man is deployed...just made me feel kinda sad that we couldn't really celebrate the day. I know I'm not alone, though!

I don't know about anybody else, but we went to Chilis in Topeka, got a table within 5 min and my hubby got chicken crispers (free of charge) and it was all good! :)

BadLuckMommy --- 14 years ago -

POF nope your not alone, my hubby is deployed as well, so I don't get to enjoy having home or taking him out to eat..lol

I do appreciate that the places are offering the vets, past, and present some free things. Its nice to see that places appreciate them for their time and service!

joyce --- 14 years ago -

I do hope that everyone had a wonderful experience with their meals and the other deals that were out there! I know my hubby and we had great service. Alot of people really showed him their appreciation by just saying "THANK YOU". I was so very proud of him. He looked them straight in the eye and said "YOUR WELCOME". Kinda teared this old crab apple right up!
