I'm sorry if my husbands rebel flag on his truck offends your sensitive nature, but we are from the SOUTH!! We have just as much right to be proud of that!! Someone filed a complaint against my husband and they are trying to make him take the flag off, we are fighting it...this is BS! Being proud of OUR heritage doesn't make us RACIST!!
I'm sorry but what the rebel flag stands for is the Confederacy which fought against freeing slaves. Therefore it is pretty much always a racist symbol no matter if you are or not.
Everything is NOT about slavery. It is Southern Heritage. If the only thing you want to take from it is slavery and racism that is YOUR issue NOT mine. It is much more to many people and saying I can't be proud of my Southern Heritage is discrimination. I am NOT racist and neither is my husband, but I am a proud Southerner. Seriously, if the rebel flag offends you that much you need a history lesson.
tiffany you and your husband have this familys support we have the rebel flag flying for our heritage too. and if people started looking the flag is on a whole lot of trucks cars and people around here

Everyone can read about the history of the Confederate Flags here and after reading this you can form your own opinion. From my understanding, this flag was used by the south while they were trying to keep slaves and desegregation during the fight to end slavery so that's why it's seen as a racist symbol, this was a flag used during that time but I didn't find anything that says it was made specifically to defy other races.
I know that the flag is all over the place. I am also from the south and the rebel flag and what it stands for is one of the things that I am not proud of. What history lesson is it that I need exactly, the flag was formed as the flag of the confederacy when the southern states seceded from the union. No matter what your personal feelings are it is a reminder of a VERY DARK time in our Nations history.
Thank you Kim, I'm just so sick of peoples ignorance towards the flag. People who know NOTHING about the flag or it's actual origin assume its racist. The confederacy was NOT all about slavery.
I'm from the south too and i like the rebel flag...it only stands for racism if you make that way. When we fly it we dont...we use it just to show we are proud of the south and love being from there...has nothing to do with being racist...i dont know if you dont like it..dont look at it?!

"Causes of secession
Main article: Origins of the American Civil War
By 1860, sectional disagreements between North and South revolved primarily around the maintenance or expansion of slavery. Historian Drew Gilpin Faust observed that "leaders of the secession movement across the South cited slavery as the most compelling reason for southern independence."[30] Related and intertwined secondary issues also fueled the dispute; these secondary differences included tariffs, agrarianism vs. industrialization, and states' rights."
I understand that the only reason for the civil war was not slavery but as it stated in the above article it was the MAIN reason for the secession and war.
Jmo you dont know who filed a compaint agianst your husband it could have been another caucasion married to an asian or hispanic or african american. It did not have to be a black person this post is very diverse. Everything is not always black and white.
Jmo you dont know who filed a compaint agianst your husband
and for you info it WAS a black person, not that it matters one way or the other. We do know who filed the complaint. Everyone in my husbands platoon is mad he has to take them off (even the people of color). I don't care if it was a white person, I have just as much right to fly the flag and be proud of my heritage.

Yes and I can find 10 articles that say it wasn't based on slavery. Those men fought for their rights and many many of them died. They were simple men fighting for their land, their family, their life and they fought and died under that flag.
Personally I dont care if you fly your undies on you truck it does not offend me I did not file the complaint. I am from the south the rebel flag is everywhere in Alabama but this is not the south this is Kansas. Some people of all races might get offended. I dont think they should make your husband remove it but It wount stop some pople from being offended. Good luck.
Understand that it is your right and you are proud of it but if it offends one person then they have to do something about it. Even though that you or other people might not see it your way. I see it as a race symbol but that it me. It does not matter the color. it only takes one person to make a complaint. Just the same if I had a black panther flag and someone didn't like it. I think flags like that should only be flown at your home, this way it keeps stuff like this from happening

I did a poll about this on another website and the only person that found it offensive was someone from ohio. The rest were from the south or it just didnt bother them...they said it was a part of history to them too. So theres ya some more support.
Good Article
this is a good article, i'm from the virgin islands but i went to school in GA and the 8th grade curriculum is GA History and it never stated the confederate flag as a racist thing, My husband is black and he was born and raised in GA, My Mother in law is Black and she was born and raised in Alabama, and if you were to ask them the same question about the flag they would all say the same thing, it isn't considered racist unless the person who is flying it makes it so. and IMO just like we have "rights" to do things in the US, why can't they have their right to fly their flag, i'm part Jamaican and if i flew my flag most people associate Jamaicans with "Black Magic" so if someone were to complain then i better see other people from the Caribbean doing the same thing. because they were all known for the same thing. My understanding of the Civil war were that the southerners were fighting to keep separated from the Northerners, because they honored their confederacy. and that as far of the slaves go, when Lincoln passed the law to free the slaves he only freed them in the confederacy not the north. so because southerner's want to fly their flags because they are proud of their history, i say leave it be, i know some southerners to this day who will never go to the north only because they are proud of their history. this is all IMO, but i still say TIFFANY they shouldn't make him take it down, because someone says so. it would be the equivalent of saying women aren't allowed to work, or black people aren't allowed to read and write. these are "freedom's" that are given to us and in one second they try to take it away. that is BS. IMO now if your husband ran around dropping "N" bombs while screaming "the south will rise again" then its racist. lol but like i said it's My opinion.
Thank you Madonna, and no, we don't use the "N" word and we raise our kids to treat people the same, but we also teach them to be proud of where they came from.
I think flags like that should only be flown at your home
You know what danielle, that's fine, when EVERYONE is required to keep any signs that they support their heritage at home then I will, until then, singling us out for ours is DISCRIMINATION!
Im from the South and that was our school flag. It seems like all the wrong people have a problem with it. Nobody in our school minded the Confederated flag as our flag. Its pride not prejudice. As for me its about my schools pride too. I had my senior pictures taken with the flag and i would tell people before they looked at them dont get offended cause its not about that. Never found on person who did get offended. The only people who do get offended it seems are the people who want attention.
I guess I should have filed a complaint against the two black children that hopped on the playground and told my white children that "this playground was for black people only" about 2 weeks ago!
God slavery happened many years ago, get over it. Many only complain when it benefits them in some way. I am far from being racist, my husband great grandparents had slaves, but he is far from racist. It was the way of the walk back then, we as Americans have moved on from that. GET OVER IT! There are plently things in the world to worry about rather than worrying about the fact that your great great grandmother use to be a slave. Ignorance is what keeps this topic of "slavery" alive. Someone trying to cry the "feel sorry for me because my great grandmother use to be a slave" bit. Sorry, no sympathy from me in this subject because IT DID NOT HAPPEN TO YOU, only your DISTANT relatives whom you probably never even knew.
There are a lot of things in this wonderful, diverse country that offend people. I hate it when I have to look at someone showing their a** because they think it is cool to have their pants hanging down to their freakin knees, but do you think that they would have to pull them up??? No - that is their right. I can't stand to see people get offered a translator to fill out the package for welfare or social security but screw my thoughts cause they get it anyway. I want a freakin prayer said at the ball games but someone else might get offended so that is gone too. The diversity of this country brings a lot of different views and yes, people are going to be offended but you have to "man" up and realize that just because you dislike something doesn't mean that others feel the same way.
It is pride and celebrating southern heritage. I am not a racist person. It is people that do not understand southern culture that try to make it bad.
I dont care if this is Kansas and not the south.........a person is a person no matter where they live. I think that living in the united states affords you freedom of speech. By flying the flag you are not hurting anyone physically or mentally.
I am from native american descent and they glorify Custer here which bothers me to a degree but I am not filing complaints about it. Nor I am in physical or mental pain about it. Being offended well in this country lately there seems to be a lot of offended ppl. I say put your big girl panties on and deal with it.
Bottom line is it is your vehicle you make the payments/paid for it so you should be able to stick anything you want to on it.
I dont like some bumper stickers I see but I dont try to get ppl in trouble over it........geez I have a life.
well said Torri and Madonna
