I try really, really hard not to be judgmental. I really do. But if you carry yourself a certain way, I don't think it's unfair for me to draw certain conclusions about you.

I live in a new neighborhood; the houses are all less than 3 years old, and we also have a stickler HOA that enforces home upkeep to the nth degree. But there is a house in my neighborhood that has me concerned; they aren't on my actual street but you have to pass their house to get to my cul-de-sac, so their house is easily visible.

Let me put it this way: they just removed their Halloween jack o'lantern on Groundhog Day (Feb 2)--and they STILL have their Christmas Tree in their front window and blow-up Christmas carousel in their front yard. Prior to that, they had bags of garbage (or whatever it was) piled up against their garage for about 3 months. At first I thought, "maybe the person is depressed or sick and unable to help themselves." But as soon as I noticed the garbage was gone, I also noticed that a sign appeared on the garage that said, "Welcome Home Such-and-Such"--so that makes me wonder if it's just a nasty wife who cleaned up when she realized hubby was coming back from the box. If that's the case though, I guess he's got issues too because you'd figure that someone would have their Christmas stuff down by the time it was almost St. Patty's Day :-/.

It may not be that she was being lazy. I mean trash ya that's being lazy but as far as Christmas decor. In 07 when a person I know put up her Christmas tree she didn't take it down. Her mom came out in July of the next year and goes uh did you forget something? She goes nope I didn't have a real Christmas and even tho he doesn't come home till November it will stay up ill after this yr Christmas too. Well It did come down before he got home but that's because she moved on post 2 months before he came home. But that's not the 1st time I have heard of people leaving their Christmas decorations up. Mine are down but boxes are still sitting in my dinning room. Not because I'm lazy its because my husband is tdy and he left with the storage key. when he left in january. But it has been down since before the 1st of yr. (we are in Germany so no where else to store it in my small place besides be storage in basement)

I say lazy

Stitches!! --- 4 years ago -

I would say 50/50. Some are just plain lazy, but there are those with mental illness(such as hoarding). I left my tree up til a little past January because we were waiting for daddy to get home for Christmas, but that was only then.

Oh and on another note...when I want to deep clean the house...I watch hoarders...lol

I say Lazy, I can see the Christmas tree being left for hubby to come home and open presents. I never did that, but I could see that. However that does not make up for the Halloween decorations or the Christmas blow up. I think they are just to dang lazy to put them away. Why won't the HOA do something about it?

That is exactly what I want to know. They're dictators about everything else and have no problem giving citations to people with beautifully kempt homes for one small violation, but those folks are getting a pass. Our next door neighbors had problems getting their grass to grow, so they decided to get Astroturf; you have to let the root system in your grass die out first before you can put in turf, so their lawn looked rough for a while--and the HOA ticketed them! We couldn't believe it. She said she was going to court because she already had it in writing that they'd approved the Astroturf, and because they come down on everyone else but won't touch that "meth house around the corner".

My educated guess is that the HOA's hands are tied. There has been a "For Sale" sign in front of that house since we first looked in to buying our home, about last March. If the house is in foreclosure and the occupants haven't paid a mortgage, they surely aren't going to give a crap what the house looks like or give a crap about HOA violation notices.

LOL! Our next door neighbors pulled in their driveway at the same time we did today, and the wife stopped to chat. She commented that the people building the new home next to the "meth house" would have no chance of selling it. I told her that we had just stopped home to pick up our daughter to take her back to school for a concert and she said, "Oh, does she sing? Tell her to go up the street and carol in their yard. They still have Christmas sh** up so they won't mind!" I laughed so hard that I didn't even get to tell her that my daughter is in band, not choir! LOLLLL!
