Start decorating for Christmas? This will be our first year together in our own place and I want to decorate now, not just because im excited and love the hoildays but because both of our parents will be here for thanksgiving and i wanted out house decorated. They are coming out from the east coast on the 15th and staying 2 weeks
I am super inpatient this year; I went ahead and decorated a Thanksgiving themed tree this weekend. I felt having the house decorated for Halloween made October/the time away from my spouse fly by. I bought a beautiful, ridiculously realistic tree from Grandin Road and decorated it with woodland creatures, turkey ornaments, and such. We love it; if I'd known how great the tree was going to be, I'd have purchased two more at the clearance price.
Back home, my family always spends Thanksgiving at a friend's house with dozens of family members and friends gathered for the annual event into the wee hours of the night. Since I was little, there was always a tree there for me and the kids to decorate. I like that tradition. Our family tradition, however, is going out as a family and picking out our fresh tree the day after Thanksgiving; always been my favorite day of the year. :)
What is grandin road? And I wish this could be a tradition but next christmas we will be overseas with no family so I guess Im super inpatient this year lol
Grandin Road is a catalog and shopping site. I purchased the Savannah Mixed Pine Tree at a huge fraction of the original over one hundred dollar-plus cost. It was on clearance and I had a coupon too boot. Sadly, they are all sold out; otherwise, I would have gladly purchased more to give as a gifts or keep for myself. :)
Where overseas? We moved here from Germany; there is nothing better than winter holidays in Europe!! :D
My birthday is at the beginning of December, so I spend that day decorating. I host Thanksgiving or I'd do it the day after that. I'm obsessive-compulsive so if I do it on my birthday my present is doing it my way. (:
When is it customary to take down Halloween stuff? I'm really tired of my neighbors bloody skeleton thing.
I know what you mean, theres 4 of my neighbors with halloween stuff still up and one with St patricks day decorations that have been up since last feb, and no they arent deployed, they come in and out every day lol
I think Halloween stuff should come down ASAP after the holiday. Transistion the decor to general fall type stuff, and then go xmas style after Thanksgiving. Its a flow... Xmas stuff can stay up til New Years, then you spend your day off taking down that crap.
I have our carved pumpkins still out but trash runs tomorrow so tonight I will put them in the trash bin ..I just didnt want to throw them in there in the closed dark space and next time I open it have maggots or any creepy crawly so they was perfectly fine out in the sun and feeding a few butterflies and such before they get set away at my house
Every year I go back and forth about whether or not I want to decorate for Christmas--and then by the time I decide that I do, I put everything up way too late and take forever to take it down, lol.
I started yesterday and have just about everything except my outdoor lights up. My friends are saying im pushing it but i dont care. This is the first Christmas my husband has been able to celebrate at home since we got here 3 years ago. If they dont like it then they can keep their mouths shut! LOL
I didn't know we couldn't have things up longer than 30 days. I put my halloween stuff up the first weekend in Oct, and took it down the first weekend after halloween, and I put my Christmas stuff up the day/weekend after Thanksgiving. I usually take them down the week after Christmas, right before New Years, since I like to start the new year with a clean house. Everything is up over 30 days, but I don't think it is way out of season or anything, not like I have valentines things up. Wish they would think about that rule for the stores, I hated seeing Christmas stuff up before halloween. When I went to look for some fall stuff, I couldn't find anything, due to all the Christmas decorations.
Yes, very few things get enforced around here. I have a neighbor with a pitbull in his garage thats kept in a cage he cannot turn around in. Nobody cares. Giant list of other crap that I wont get into... but 1 out of 4 homes is prolly doing something wrong, and nobody cares.
I'd call mps when he is home if animal control is not on duty. When I come back to states I don't think I can ever live on post again no matter where we are stationed to much bs. Dont know how i did it for the 3 yrs when I did live on post there.
i heard animal control was let go last week because they never did anything, and the mp's are now doing it. but i do know animal control does nothing, our neighbor has dobermans and they are not allowed on post either, they tore a hole in my chain link fence because they run free
