Someone said in a earlier post they were building a new chapel. I just need to say how disappointed I am that they are tearing down those big trees. That one tree must be a couple 100 years old. Just very sad.

Sharileigh --- 12 years ago -

I was very sad when I saw them tearing down those trees as well!! If there is going to be a chapel there I think that is a poor location choice.

LovMySoldier --- 12 years ago -

Yeah it was on Fort Rileys facebook that they are building a chapel. I agree it is an odd spot for it. Plus there are 5 chapels on post, do they really need another one? I have nothing against chapels, but I wish it were something more uhm exciting or adventurous.

I think its even more a poor location now that they tore down those trees. It could have been so pretty.

A few of those trees were beautiful and huge

I thought the same thing too. Were driving by today and when we saw that big giant tree they had started cutting down it broke my heart a little. I mean of all places on post! There are plenty of open empty fields on post that church could have gone

We were talking about the trees earlier today too. Was sad to see that one huge one go. Thought it was pretty cool looking and think of how long it must have been there. :(

Im just surprised that they are doing that at all. For all the yelling and griping that has been going on about the budget, somehow they have found money to waste on yet another chapel, when there are already many on post, and you can drive past them and they are never full. They are willing to destroy the few mature trees that are on this side of post, but you will never see them do that over on main post. I don't understand why they did that at that spot, instead of the thousands of more suitable spots around, if they felt so strongly that they had to at all. Ugh, people and stupidity make me sick.

Driving by it again this morning broke my heart seeing them laying in smashed piles and that one huge one all mangled and twisted. I would have protested if I would have known. My husband seems to think its a chilis since they have even talking about thy for a couple years but whatever it is it's not worth tearing all those trees down.

LovMySoldier --- 12 years ago -

It was suppose to be chilis, but someone asked on fort rileys Facebook and fort Riley answered that it was going to be a new chapel.

I wish they would have uprooted and transplanted one of those trees to my yard. Most of us in Forsyth have no mature trees in our yards and I would love a tree....for shade, privacy, to see and hear the birds, beautification, etc.

Ottosgirl --- 12 years ago -

Well... I'm glad it wasn't just me. We live near there and my kids loved going down to play around that tree. It was really the only open spot. So sad.

Dess --- 12 years ago -

I agree~ the trees were lovely and I am a tree lover... Shameful they tore them down! Wish there was something we as a community could have done...

Wish there was something we as a community could have done... I so agree!!
I am sure they would have appreciated a little shade outside their new chapel on a scorching Sunday morning.
