When I put big items that are broke out by the curb and people come and pick them up. Like a TV or Vacuum or Carpet cleaner. I wonder if they get them and take them home and then go "poo, this doesnt work....I guess thats why they were throwing it away"

My random thought of the day.

Maybe they took it home to fix it up. I know someone that picked up a flat screen off the curb he figured out what was wrong with it and fixed it. I know thats probably not the case with everyone... but Just saying

My uncle was a notorious junker. He was very handy and would drive around from neighborhood to neighborhood picking up things to fix and keep (and sometimes sell).

I went along with him as a kid a few times. I remember him picking up a vacuum on the curb, checking it out, sucking his teeth and saying, "Hmph. Just needs a new belt..." LOL. Technology has changed a lot since then, but I still believe a lot of people would rather throw things out than get them fixed. Heck, I had the extended warranty plan on a vacuum before we left Kansas; I'd only had it for 5 months and the freaking thing broke, so I just trashed it, lol.

Also, sometimes one man's trash is another man's treasure. We drove by this beautiful real-wood desk outside the neighbor's home at the end of the block, so I rang their bell and asked if it was for sale. The lady of the house giggled and said no, she just didn't want it anymore. It's now in my basement as my mighty-fine sewing table, lol :D!

When I throw stuff out its beyond fixable. We redneck fix it as much as we can until it finally just dies. The carpet cleaner I threw out was 6 years old and it literally just died while I was using it. I mean I guess it would make a cool coat rack or something and maybe the tv (it was the old school 15 year old tv) you could make an aquarium out of it or a boat anchor or something like that but there was no fixing it haha.

my husband doesnt believe in throwing stuff away in tact. when we threw our kids mattresses away due to getting new ones my husband cut them down the middle and soaked them with water. he doesnt believe in ppl taking crap that we paid for. while ruining the mattresses some guy pulled up and ask him if he could take them while my husband had a hose on them and the guy was mad and called the mps. im like really you just called the mps, and he told the mps that my hubby was destroying property and the mp asks who stuff it was and the guy is like well its his but he didnt have to tear it up and ruin in before he put in out there, the mp is like dude your stupid its his stuff he can do what he wants. i just couldnt believe how dumb some ppl are.

lmao people are stupid. I wouldn't ruin it. You could take it to goodwill just cause alot of people can't afford it. But people on post take it and sell it. Ruining it for people that actually need it. :(

eh when we lived in hawaii both of our window A/Cs were from a night of junking and they were perfectly fine

saved us money so who cares

If it is at the curb it is obviously free game for someone else, whether they put the item to use or fix it and sell it. I have seen people throw away perfectly good cribs, BBQ, kids toy and bikes, household furniture, etc. and I actually am happy if I see someone take it because it will not be filing up the landfill. I have personally taken a few things from the curb. I feel like I am being watched, but if they did not want it removed they could just yell at me and I would understand. I had a neighbor next to me leave and their uhaul was too small and they had everything at the curb. It was like a free garage sale and they placed it their nicely in hopes people would take what they needed rather than it all go to trash. They had no room to haul it to Goodwill, no time for a sale, etc. They made a lot of people happy!

Yeah I dont mind if people take them, I just picture them plugging them in at home and being really disappointed and it makes me giggle. If I have working stuff I try to post it so people know they can have it and it works so they arent dragging in my broken garbage.

Usually if you see a lot of decent stuff it is too good to be true. My husband had a Soldier's angry wife put all of hours stuff to the curb. She even posted it so people would come and get it. It became very messy because it was not just personal stuff but military stuff. By the time he had learned of it there was not much left for him to retrieve. He tried hard to get his stuff back, but not one person returned a thing. They went to court later on for divorce and she had to pay for his military gear and he got primary custody of the kids because of her malicious doings. So if there seems to be a lot of nice stuff it is probably not really trash.

We are good at fixing things...We are a one income family with four kids ranging from 7 yrs-3.5 months. Its hard to get the nessesities for EVERYONE so if we see something on the side of the road that we think we can fix and use then we grab it. We do what we can...a few years ago found a 42in tv on side of road grabbed it and it only needed a bulb! works just fine now!!! When we first moved here someone threw out a changing table the drawers didnt work right...we fixed that and our daughter used it as a dresser for over a year!!! Painted it a different color. anyways...what I am saying is whats one persons trash could be one persons treasure broken or not!!!

I have a real problem with people who abuse the MPs like that. Of course there is no one on earth who knows every law on the planet, but common sense would tell a person it isn't illegal to destroy something they paid for with their own money. What did he expect the MPs to do, take your husband away in handcuffs? Man...
