My heater in my truck has gone out, anyone know of a good shop I can take it to? Never used anyone around here and just kinda wary, don't wanna get ripped off especially since the hubby is deployed.

I have taken my durango to dick edwards in JC for oil changes...seemed to do a good job. reasonably priced too...I would just call them and ask for a rough estimate

There is a place in Manhattan called A&H auto. They just put a timing belt on my car and did a great job. Great prices too! If you want the number let me know.

Thanks ladies, Im gonna get an estimate from both of them :)

I took my car to Jim clark for my AC not working and it was originally like 850-900 but they know i only had about 750 becuase i told them that when i called in and before they even looked at the problem or looked at my vehical they gave me and estimate of like 600 well since they gave me an estimate of 600 they gave me some kinda discount and i got my ac fixed for like 750 or a little more. But it doesnt matter where you take it its going to be a spendy fix i can tell you that right now!!

I also had them check out a couple other problems and the 2 other problems i have is something my husband can fix for way less then what i am going to pay them the parts are like 200 dollars and they estimated me like 1300 dollars total so they were going to charge me 1100 dollars for labor screw that. I'll buy the 200 dollars worth of parts and have my husband fix those problems. and neither one of those problems are serious. ones a sensor and ones just something missing.

so i guess what im basically saying is jim clark is kind of a rip off. but i had to take my car there becuase my car is a saab so i needed to really take it to a chevy dealer to get it fixed. Every place i called well you can bring it in but becuase its a saab i am not promising you we can fix the problem

but they did call me before they started the work on all 3 things to tell me what it was going to cost before they started the work.

Did the heater stop blowing or is it blowing cold?

Blair --- 14 years ago -

Well I'm hoping its just a relay or something acting up because it was cutting in and out for a while then just stopped blowing completely. I just had the heater core completely replaced not to long ago so I don't think that's what it is. It would still blow if that were the case.

Sounds random, but check your radiator make sure it has plenty of water. My water pump was leaking on my truck and the heater would randomly stop working. Replaced the water pump and heater worked again

Blair, we had a really bad experience with Dick Edwards in JC. The engine light had came on and we took it to autozone to see what it meant (they have the computer that will tell you the codes for free). It came back my catalytic converter needed replaced. Since it was still under the extended warranty, we took it into Dick Edwards to see if it was covered by the warranty (since it is a $700 project). Anyway, we dropped it off first thing in the morning and told them we had to have it back by 2:30 so that we could get the kiddos from school. I got a call at noon from a service tech asking how to start my truck. I was like uh... turn the key? They said they had tried everything and can't get it to start. Well, the only thing that came to my mind was they messed up my anti-theft device on the car and it killed the ignition. I hadn't left the keypad at the dealer and they asked me to come in and start it. I went down... nothing would start my truck. They said they would work on it and get back with me. At 2p I called them to see what they figured out and when I could pick it up. They told me that while it was there the fuse box crapped out on it and it wasn't covered by warranty. To get my car operable again it would cost me $1200 out of pocket. I was like "EXCUSE ME?? I brought it in for a catalytic converter issue and now my car is INOPERABLE?" They told me I could have it TOWED out of their service bay or I could allow them to fix it. I was LIVID! I spoke with their entire managment team and threatened them with IG. Finally magically they were able to convince my warranty company to pay for the repair and I had my expedition back the next day at no cost to me. Now, I am sorry, sounds like bad business to me - There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with my expedition other than the light on (for the exhaust issue) when I took it in. Maybe that box did happen to just "go out" while it was there for 4hrs... I am not a mechanic, but I am highly skeptical and feel that they were trying to just suck money out of me. :(
