i know that when i had my 3rd daughter in march i was given a coupon book which included a coupon for the salon, I went in and had my hair cut for 2.95.. it was so nice and everytime ive had the same person which makes it nice too

I had the worst haircut ever there. A guy (who I think may be the owner's son - if so, that's probably why he works there) "tried" to touch up my bob haircut. He ended up brushing all my hair back and cut in an angle (instead of parting my hair and cutting). Then he put gel in my hair and tried to give me a Kate Gosselin hair do. I told him I wanted it straight, he dried it and straightened the top layer of hair. It looked like I had a mushroom on my head. I went there my first week at Riley, so I didn't know any other place to go. Luckily I found Gaia salon to fix my hair. I would never recommend going there.

If you search the threads you will find many, many experiences with your salon.

I and several of my friends (wish I had known them before I made my appointment) have had horrid experiences with John (the owner’s son), I have read more on here dealing with other stylists there though.

I wish to hell I had enquired BEFORE I set foot in the door. He totally screwed up my hair and then I was forced not only to pay for his mess but to also pay to have his mess corrected elsewhere AND I had to pay to fix my damaged hair- meaning expensive shampoos and fixes like ‘super skinny’ and deep conditionings because my hair was so damaged.

They still made me pay for his MESS, something that his father said looked 'awful' and he could not believe his son had done such and must have been having a ‘off day’.

No refund or they said would fix it or attempt to. Whatever- as if I trust being able to speak about the owner’s son in a negative manner and HOPE to god my hair will be fixed by his Mom or Dad and they will understand my going off on their ‘baby’ as I complain about the horrible job he did and they forced me to pay for. Do you know how uncomfortable that makes someone?

They need to can John Jr. period. I know I am not the only as I said search the forum and you will see. Not long after that happened nearly the same thing happened to my new neighbor.

He took out the highlight foils and asked her ‘you wanted to be blonde” didn’t you?' She said she said ”NO! I never wanted to be blonde” and was totally shocked—but she braved it and allowed them to fix it. She ended up liking someone named Sara—but she was going every 4-6 weeks only to have the color go right back to the blonde (just like the problem I have had for months now too).

John's highlights have cost me 200 for his mess-up and since then I would guestimate about 600.00 plus, plus to have it ‘fixed’.

Never again.

I finally got a refund after several ICE complaints and meeting with the manager of the PX services.

Hey,Sharileigh I was wondering what services do you all offer at your work? I braid hair and I am looking to work in a salon around the Ft.Riley or Manhattan area. Or if anyone else knows of any place that is in need of a experienced hair braider. I braid children and adult hair.

I 'WAS' a regular there but after the last time I went, I will NEVER go back. I just wanted my hair straightened with a wash, flat iron only their pamphlet says "$25" but when I got to the front to pay I also got an eyebrow wax the bill was like $56? I didn't question it until I was out of the door and was like "WOW" that was a lot of money just for that, well I guess because I have a lot of hair and the texture they can charge more but not add that to the pricing...NEVER again will I go back after that!

I used to go there when I was pregnant to get prenatal massages. A nice young lady with long brown hair always did mine and did a wonderful job. She was very kind. If we still had the extra money I would continue to go once a month, but unfortunately we dont. HOWEVER, i did go there about a month ago to get my eyebrows waxed and I will NOT make the mistake to go there again. An older lady did mine, and i told her i just wanted them cleaned up and to make sure that she didnt take off to much because i HATE really thin eyebrows...and she did the exact opposite of what I asked her to. My eyebrows looked horrible and I had to keep correcting what she was doing because they were uneven. It was very frustrating and now im having to grow back out my eyebrows because they are too thin :-\

Someone did the first trim on my daughter hair. She never wet it down at all. My daughter has extremely curly hair and it was uneven when it was all done. She did 5 snips total. We weren't even there 10 minutes. And we were charged full amount for the wash and cut (which she didnt have a wash.) I was really upset because this was my babies first haircut.

I had someone do my eye brows. I dont know her name but she is a taller black lady. Her hands smelled so bad of cigarettes it was making me gag. I was so glad to have it finished. She did a good job just her hands reeked.
The deep tissue massage I got from a smaller girl. My husband set it up being all nice because I was so tense in my neck after my jaw surgery. It wasnt a deep tissue massage at all. I didnt feel even relaxed when I was finished. I went in so I could try to relieve tension in my neck and shoulders to help with the pain and came out with nothing better. She didnt push into the muscles at all. I ended up going to the school in Manhattan. I got a twice as long massage for half the price and they did a hundred times better job. Oh and her cell phone went off while I was getting the massage. She was apologetic about it but really? Why did she have her cell in there in the first place.
All and all I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Yes he is the owners son and you are not the 1st to complain about him messing up your hair. My frined got hers done and it was un even and not layred right and what not she had to go back and he wasnt in when she went in he didnt work for 2 more days and they wanted her to come back in 2 days to fix it but she couldnt because she was getting ready to PCS and the movers were coming. They normally have the preson fixed it that orgiinally messed up which she didnt wanted the same person. WHo would want the same person that messed up your hair last time?? but since she had so much going on they let someone else fix it and they told her if she was doing a straight cut then they wouldn't charge her but if she wanted it layered again then they would charge her well she got charged again becuase she wanted it layered and becuase he messed it up so bad her hair ended up being shorter then what she wanted it to. needless to say between the 2 hair cuts and the 2 tips she ended up paying 60 dollars becuase she had to pay for them to fix it

Thankyou to everyone that has posted so far. I hope to get many more responses and hopefully can help make some much needed changes at the salon spa. I apologize for all of the bad experiences and hope that one day everyone will want to have services done with us.

TTs Neighbor- I'm glad that you have had great experiences with us. We constantly have coupons out in the px flyers and sales on our products. Right now most of our Kenra items are 5 dollars off. Thankyou for your business we appreciate it, and look forward to seeing you again :)

daisy_petals2000- I work wed thru sat and rotate sunday monday and tuesdays off. Usually I am there 10-7 I do facials, body waxing, spray tans, custom color, and haircuts. If you want a color done i am offering 10% off for first time clients of mine. I hope to see you. If my hours dont work for you the spas hours are Monday thru friday 10-7 sat 9-6 and sun 11-5

GSP Love- I apolgize for everything and your bad experience with us and John. I would love for you to give us a second try. I cant make excuses for his mistakes but I assure you none will be made on my part or on the part of my fellow stylists. There are many new stylists that have came into the salon and i have good things to say about all of them. If you are up to coming and trying us out again i would be more than happy to exceed your expectations :)

Cassi- Yes I have read all of the posts I can find about our salon and how the services are we have given. I am not happy at all with what I have read. I did see that many of them though were from before I came and before alot of our other stylists, thats why I started this discussion. I really dont even know what to say honestly. But I will start out by saying I am sorry. I would be very bitter if that situation happened to me and can imagine how that would make you feel. Again from a comment before I can not make excusses for that stylist or situtation. But i can relate. I understand if you would prefer never to set foot in this salon but if you change your mind i am excellent at color and i have many refrences. I'm not looking to overcharge or be care free about anyones hair. This is my passion and I love every minute of my job even on the rough days. Please dont let one bad apple spoil the bunch. Please apologize to your neighbor as well.

Candace- we are always accepting applications for stylist as our demand for services are high. I personaly am just a stylist and dont have any control so putting in an application and or speaking to the manager would be more helpful. I'm not sure how many clients request braids but advertising is the best way to build up. We offer Manicures, Pedicures, Spray tanning, body waxing, Facial waxing, Facials, Massages, Color, Sew-ins , Relaxers, lol pretty much everything :)


Dinkzkidz- The services you got should have been explaned more in your consultation with the stylist so that is our fault. The pamphlet we have states all starting prices there is a + on the side of everything. But that was our mistake not to go over it with you. And i have already made the comment to make that more clear when we advertise prices.

Britt- I'm glad to hear that you have good experiences with your massages. On the other hand the eyebrow wax...not so good :( Obviously there was a miscommunication with what you really wanted and what the estetician thought you ment. So you know all of the girls do eyebrows and I would reccomend you to request someone with the front desk they can be very helpful with setting you up with someone who understands what you want.

overit- You shouldnt have been charged for a wash if your daughter didnt recieve one. That was a definet mistake on our part. The cigarette smoke hands I apologize for. I myself am a smoker but santize before my services. I will make sure that everyone is aware to do just that after taking a break because even being a smoker i definetly wouldnt want to smell that in front of my face either. We have 3 other new massage therapists if you consider trying us out again i would highly recomend Roz he does great deep tissue massages on me and i would pay double for the way he is professional and peforms his services. But hey double the time and half the money is great too :) We cant please everyone but I do want to try.

Me2YOU- You are blunt lol thankyou may I ask who has done your services and why you are not satisfied? We have some really great stylists. Patrisha I think is fabulous with nails she has done amazing things i have never even seen before for nail art, Tisha, Sheniece, Emily, and I can bust out some great eyebrows, haicuts, and colors. As far as the prices I'm not in control of that but we are a spa so our prices are higher but are customer service should reflect on that price also which is why i started this discussion.

giff's fam- I agree with you totally and I think I have wrote sorry to people like 5 times I really dont know what else i can do. Is there something in paticular that would help you or anyone else be willing to try us out again? And the haircut part I think that was wrong and for everything you went through you should NOT have been charged for that but i have no control all I can do is try to make future services better for everyone and help the salon grow along with my fellow stylists and friends.

I've been here for over a yr and havent had my hair cut yet haha. I always go home and let my best friend do it since she does hair...I let her experiment on my hair haha. If I dont get to go home soon though I might check y'all out. I need my hair colored since its got so long its hard for me to do it myself haha.

I was actually one of the gals that started a thread on the PX salon, John truly in nice terms messed my hair up. Not only did he make my bleach blonde hair have zebra strips, he also gave me chemical burns on my hair. I had to pay for the service but also I had to pay for it to get fixed at another salon, over all i spent 150 at the px but another 100 plus to get it fixed and dyed a darker color because there was no way my stylist was going to try and put beach back on because of the burns. That was over a year ago and I am just now able to be bleach blonde again and I finally don't have burns on my scalp anymore.

Marsha- I saw your thread THAT IS HORRIBLE I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I'm glad that you are at least finally able to get what you wanted. But i thankyou for trying us and remember we have many new stylists if yours is ever unavailable and we WONT LET YOU DOWN AGAIN.

i saw this discussion and thought id give my input.iv been there a few times. iv had color, waxing, and many cuts from diffrent peolpe there. iv been very happy with my visits. i even enjoy my free soda.Although I havent had any bad experiences with my services I have seen the "owners son" and let me tell you his work ethics are horrible. He has tried to even butt in on my color before and give his two cents which let me tell you was not needed and plain rude. I would highly recommend for everyone to try out the salon but request not to have John.

Thank you I guess, but that is not going to change what happened to my hair and to friends and neighbors of mine. When I am still paying for the damage months later it is beyond ridiculous IMO.

When the owner of the store looks at me and says my hair look ‘awfu’l and he STILL makes me pay for the service and demands that they be allowed to fix it when their son ruined my hair – makes me think the reason they have that sign up saying ‘no refunds’ is a direct result of John’s abuse and poor work ethic and lackadaisical attitude of not caring that he is ruining peoples hair.

IMO someone needs to print out the reams of complaints on this forum in many different threads and take them or send them to John SR and his wife, the owners of the salon.

Their son, John has ruined their business and will continue to ruin business at their other store Janique's and your salon, the PX salon, Stylique.

Amazing isn’t it? While I was trying to get a refund ( took me months) after they made me pay and I was in tears I asked if I allowed them to fix my hair would they assure it was fixed? Meaning the condition it was in before I walked into their store?

Nope they only had the obligation to make sure it was the highlights I had requested. That was it, they would get the highlights correct and fini!

Nothing more, I even asked if they would provide me with deep conditionings and I was shot down. Given he ruined my hair and this is a Mom and Pop business and a small community they need to assure their customers leave happy.

I guess they may end up with business as the troops rotate though-- I can only hope that John Jr. is no longer damaging hair for those poor women who may not ask friends or questions before they make an appointment.

Cassie I agree with you and am not saying what was said or how the service was performed was proffesional or right but i do want to make the salon better and I do work there and i do take pride in my work and my fellow stylists do as well. Yes if there are that many complaints then maybe they should be put together and brought to the attention of aafes but i do work there and am not trying to start dramma or jeopordise my job. I want to make spouses aware that we are not all "lackadaisical" as you call it and we have many well trained and proffesional girls that work there and not to write the whole salon off on one person that seems to be giving a bad review.

SHarileigh- I think its awesome that not only you are trying to make things better but you also took the time to answer each of us individually. Yes if there was a person there that was more then 90 lbs soaking wet and had the strength to do massages Id probably try it again. At the time there wasnt. I think I saw the guy you are talking about when I went in to buy one of the little gel things that you can put in the microwave or ice it. Those things are awesome! It might be worth trying again. But either way I do think its pretty cool you are willing to hear the bad and try to change it.

That is the problem though it is not just one person. It is that one person John and his parents/the owners. Both of them work there too.

Why make someone pay when their hair has been ruined? Why not assure their hair is fixed? And assure that they are not forced to pay for a bad product. That is the same as me bringing a glass vase to the register to have the clerk drop it and I am forced to pay for the vase still IMO.


Why allow someone to work there when he is causing so much damage? Both owners need to see how much their son has done and they need to stop allowing him to work there. IMO if they truly cared about their customers he would not have a job.

They are well aware of the damage he has caused over the years and are not stopping it—they continue to allow him to damage even more people and keep demanding that clients pay for damage that was not their fault.

I just made a suggestion, I did not mean for you to walk over to the owners and say here look at this but perhaps you could send it anonymously?

That could accomplish something perhaps as you stated you wanted to do. I certainly do not want you to lose your job. Sorry I was not clear.

@ Sharileigh- I think it's really nice of you to apologize on behalf of your workplace and other people's mistakes. I also think the fact that you have come on here and introduced yourself and started this topic to really try and listen and understand people's feelings toward the salon and their experiences says alot about you. I think that if I ever get the courage to try the salon out, I will go to you.

I don't get on RUG very often, but the times I have, I've seen some of the things said on this subject/salon before which is why I haven't gone there.

I have been looking for a place to go to for a while. I tried someone out at Mane Thing last spring and was not impressed. I ended up paying $145( $165 including tip because of the length of time and effort) for something that I really wasn't thrilled with. But that was the main thing though, the effort she put in, which I really respected and appreciated. But I'm not a glutton for punishment so I won't be going back to sit through any more of that "effort" any more lol. Don't get me wrong, I thought she was a very nice young lady and I did enjoy my time there. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, but I haven't gone back and won't be going back in the future.
I will take my chances elsewhere.

As far as John, I used to kinda know him as DJ Johnny. I have never seen his work and didn't even know that he was a stylist until I saw him walking out of the salon one day while I was at the pharmacy across the way. But a couple weeks ago I read some of the things said here, and I put two and two together and then realized they were talking about Johnny....you get the idea. I don't really know him all that well just in general, but I know he was or is an awesome DJ. But apparently he sucks as a stylist...? Maybe he should just stick to that? who knows, maybe he doesn't do that anymore....

Anyway, kudos to you for asking and hopefully listening to both the satisfied and unsatisfied customers!

the owners son has always been the one to cut my hair and every single time he has done it exactly the way i want, I am finding it hard to believe that people are talking that pourly of him... oh well, i like it there and will continue to go.. :)

Overit- Yes that would be Roz :) He really is awesome we also have another new female massage therapist. I havent heard her reviews yet but she seems promising and weighs more than 90 lbs soaking wet lol

Cassi- I agree with you! You shouldnt have had to pay for it it should have been fixed if i was your stylist there was no way you are walking out the door without some complimentary deep conditions but thats just it i wasnt and i know all the other stylists that are there now would treat you the exact same way i feel. I know what you mean when you say these things trust me... but remember when you said you were in a hard and uncomfortable place to say something and worry about getting your hair fixed the correct way because of "mom and dad"...well thats kinda how it is for me they are my bosses and i do work with john everyday. I've seen him do some excellent work but it seems on here at least there is more cons than pros and all these complaints are affecting my paycheck by spouses new to post not wanting to even try us out so if it is that serious if there are that many complaints then yes something should definetly be done.
Maybe you could have your neighbor and other friends post all there experiences on here and what would make them try us out again.

Jamie- Thankyou for appreciating what I'm trying to do. I dont want this to be a b*tch fest or a bunch of dramma but do like to know why it seems our salon has slowed down quiet a bit...and i know yall are out there im a military wife myself there should be no reason for any of you to go elswhere thats why the salon is here its for YOU, ALL OF YOU. And i want you to want to use it. And yes John still does dj i havent ever went but i hear rave reviews but thats not my place to say if he should put down the shears and dj forever.

THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE YOU WANT TO USE IT?

Cassie, Marsha, GSP love, Britt, overit, etc....what is going to make you want to come to us or what is going to give you security or reason to refer your friends. Is it lower our prices, more coupons and specials? Lets say if this happened pretend i went and said hey look at all these complants from all the different threads and they go rid of john. WOULD YOU COME BACK? Is that the main reason why yourselves and other spouses dont step into the door to get there hair colored because of all the bad things they hear about him so they just write us all off? If that is the case ill bring all these posts to there attention but remember he is just one person the same with his mom( which i have heard no complaints she does awesome work) but they arent me, Sheniece, tisha, Emillee, crystal, Melissa P, and everyone of them want to do the best job possible. No one has to go to a specific stylist but there shouldnt be a reason to purposly avoid one either. I hope it all gets figured out and i can try and make some good changes.

I hope you do continue to go to john i do know he has alot of clients that just love him and im glad you got to let the other ladies know hes not a f*ck *p...do you have any suggestions though for the salon that you would interest you in visiting us more often?

I just wanted to let you know that kaylene, if thats how you spell it, (she gave me her card and i cant tell how its spelt) is the one that did my eyebrows. There was no miscommunication because when I told her i didnt want them really thin she responded by saying she agreed with my choice because she didnt think really thin eyebrows looked good either. And the fact that i had to point out things that made them noticably uneven was unprofessional to me. I dont want to sit here and fuss though because im not that kind of person, but i just wanted to let you know that the reason that i havent gone back since is because i would feel very awkward to go in and say i dont want a specific person to do them. and it would be ten times more awkward if i came in and she was sitting at the front desk and offered to do them and i said no. i dont like being mean lol

britt i know what you mean and there shouldnt be a reason in the first place for you to feel that way about coming in to make an appointment im sorry thats what happened i was just trying to assume the best of a fellow cowowoker. You could call and talk to the receptionist and we all do work as a team in the salon if i have one of "tishas" regular haircuts that needed to just get in ill do it the same with eyebrows there will be no hard feelings towards you because your previous service wasnt up to par or the stylist you would usually go to isnt there so you went with someone else.

For me to even possibly reconsider even thinking about going back to that salon would he would have to be gone for good! Because not only did i get disrespected because I hated the it, i was crying in the salon and calling another salon to see if i could get it fixed so late at night but the next day when his dad was standing in the px and he seen me, he told me that it looked worse with the new color and i should have left it the way it was. I truly wish I would have taken pics but I wasn't willing to even have such a photo with my hair looking that bad out there because I do take pride in what i look like. This is why I go to salons. Then forcing me to pay for such a service that was over 150 to have me walking out in tears...not really the best thing you want to see when you are in the customer service business. Just sayin! I would also have to see photos or comments from customers before even the thought again because I am going to be very cautious and reserved. I know people make mistakes but as people brought up before there seems to be at trend on who is the issue! John, and some others as well but mainly him. I do give you props for coming on here and not alot of people comment on here but I know the word gets around to actually read the reviews on businesses and resturants. Of course you get the drama as well but I just disregard most of that and find some great advice, reviews and great friends. So i do get why it has slowed down business. Word of mouth travels 10 times faster about a place when it is negative, and it take 2 times as positive to counteract just one of those negatives.
