So where I'm from, when someone moves in anywhere near your house, you go over with some goodies and say welcome to the neighborhood and leave them your name and phone number, and just be neighborly. That isn't the case everywhere, especially someplace like an army post where neighbors are constantly moving in and out.
Am I the only one who still introduces themselves when they see that someone new is moving in? When we got here I went to introduce myself to the people on the other side of our house (in Forsyth) and I only got out that we just moved in next door before the lady stared me down like I was insane, and when I told her my name she said "okay" and smiled and shut the door.

Honestly, I think the majority of folks don't introduce themselves anymore. Frankly, people are wary of opening themselves up to strangers, because you could be popping the top off a large can of worms by doing so--mostly because people don't know the difference between 'neighbors' and 'neighborly'.

The Welcome Wagon also used to come around and give out goodies and say welcome, but I'm going to tell you the honest truth: if someone came to my house and brought baked goods, I wouldn't eat them. There are crazy people out there who would put something in them, use them as toilet tissue just for a laugh, etc. So no, I don't think it's too strange that the Welcome Wagon has a flat tire, lol. It's a sad state of affairs, but you just can't trust people (on both sides).

lol I don't do this. I will introduce myself to the people that move into the house directly next to me or behind me but that's about it and only if they are outside. To be honest, I don't want to make "friends" with trashy people that I normally wouldn't associate with so I don't want to chance it. lol I just mind my own business and keep to myself

I used to be friendly to my neighbors but not anymore. Never again will I go out of my way to introduce myself or my family to the kind of people I have had to live by since moving here to Ft. Riley! Can't wait until my husband retires and we can move to the mountains where the only neighbors for miles is family :)

This is the first place we have lived where our neighbors came over and introduced themselves! I loved it! I had to have surgery and one if our neighbors brought over lasagna for my hub and kids.

I still introduce myself. But honestly ft riley has a lot of people whom just dont want to associate. Wich i understand but being a social butterfly nyself i like talking to people. Even if we dont see eye to eye i enjoy knowing them. but here people dont want to be bothered for some reason.

I'll admit, part of introducing myself is getting a grasp on what kind of people they are. You can usually tell if they're neighbors worth getting close to in the first minute, but no one here tries at all. Makes me miss home.
And I promise if I ever introduce myself to any if you guys in person that my baked goods are not poisoned or used as toilet tissue haha

Maybe it is living in post with all the different lifestyles, and such a huge diversity of people that causes people to be unapproachable. The whole we/they are leaving why get to know them.

I don't live in post and I love living here in KS.

All i can say is if you meet me and its a day i dont want to get dressed, i am the jammie queen. So if you bring me a plate of goodies be prepared to snuggle up with a cup of coffee on my front porch while i am in my jammies and one of my many bath robes. And enjoy a nice conversation and a good cup of joe. I love great company...and good laughs...also a good dirty joke. So if u got one let me know....hahaha

We've lived on post since November and lived in JC for 18 mos before that and let me tell you- off post, I would never introduce myself to my neighbors. One neighbor was a creeper who liked to peek in our windows and the others liked to call the cops on us for any peek we made out our front door; including summer water fights, music playing while cleaning our car at 1pm in the afternoon, and my husband screaming like a little girl over the cats bringing a lotus in. The JCPD said we could report them for harassment for their constant nosiness, but we were the better people and just moved away. Since living on post I have found that you have some neighbors who are nice and some who aren't. I live in Ellis Heights in one of the 4 family homes and the neighbors on my left have introduced themselves, our children play together, and we even watch our TV shows together over a cup of starbucks. The people on the right, however, bring their dogs in everytime I take my dog out (she likes to play with them through the fence) and gives me a dirty look like my dog will contaminate theirs. We haven't had a single conversation, when I tried to introduce myself in the driveway, she rolled her window up and drove away. Can you say (edited)??

I really think it depends on where you live. We moved to Chapman in October and everyone has been so nice. Our neighbors have all come over and introduced themselves, we even exchanged Christmas cookies. Our downtown is pretty awesome too, I went into a local shop the other day and needed to get some material I didn't have enough cash to get all I needed so I told her I would come back and she said... oh no get what you need and you can always come back and pay me the remainder another day. Where else do you find that but in a small town?

janiedoer --- 12 years ago -

Chapman is freaking awesome! Live the schools too! It's where we live also!

I swear i hate when someone acts all high and mighty. I am better than you attitude. That kind,of person can lick my big toe...and honestly so what if my hisband out ranks your or vice versa....that has nothing to do with me. If someone wants to act like they are better than someone else then so be it. But remember this its also gonna get lonely real quick when no one wants anything to do with a snob. And the one who acts like their poo dont stink, thats the heffa we all sit around and laugh about. Because, their little attitude is quite funny....i cant stand snobs....

I have been very happy since moving here.

tmmundy2 --- 12 years ago -

Its not that people are unhappy here. Its just ft riley isnt say one of most favorite post. Lol i dont hate ks...ks hates me..it gets me sick...

D Ann --- 12 years ago -

tmmundy2 sounds like you have neighbors like mine..lol..

What is so sad that if the neighbors were more friendly i might actually let them know that you can see them nakee in the bathroom. The neighbirs i like and, have been really sweet. I let them know from the start that they should put up curtains. But the snotty ones give nasty looks so i dont even try. Just let the world check out their junk.
