I ordered my husband a beautiful pair of pajamas from JCPenney for Christmas. He likes the long pants/long sleeved shirt pj's but he is over 6'2" and built like a linebacker, so pajamas are especially hard to find for him. But I found a pair on JCPenney.com in an XXL size with extra length, and they were on sale for $20 (marked down from $70) so I jumped on the deal. Instead of having them shipped in, I chose the "ship to store" option where they get shipped in to a local Penney's and then you can pick them up.

I ordered them on 7 December and hadn't received a call that they were in yet, so I called the store yesterday to check. I was put on hold for a long, long time then the associate asked for my number, checked my order, and said they had come in. I got off work and battled traffic down Academy to get the Citadel Mall JCP's.

Lo and behold, I get in the store, wait in a long line, and am then told that no, they hadn't come in. I told the woman I had even called and was told they came in, but she flipped the screen around and showed me that they were in "Pending" status. She said there was a good possibility that the person who looked up the order didn't check the status and just saw the screen and assumed they'd come in. I let it go because it wasn't her fault that someone else had screwed up.

Today, I called the Men's Department Manager and let him know what happened. He asked if I got the name of the person I talked to and almost snorted when I said, "No"--almost as if he didn't believe me. I told him I just wanted to let him know so he could make sure all his employees knew how to look up an order. He thanked me for my call at the end of the conversation and then we hung up.

I am not one of those people who take honest mistakes and try to get free stuff from a store, the ones who say "You screwed up so give me a $20 gift card for my trouble!" The pajamas are paid for so I don't want a refund or a gift card or coupon or any of that; I just wanted the manager to make sure his staff knew how to properly look up an order. My main concern is that they fix the problem so no one else has to go through it, too. It has been snowing since Tuesday, the roads are slick, and I think it sucks I now have to make 2 trips on a road notorious for accidents all because someone didn't check thoroughly. So yeah, Customer Service may really be dead :(.

My in laws are the exact people you describe. Argue EVERYTHING to get something back. They didn't pay their cable bill for three months and one of those days the cable wasn't working, they want a refund. They received like a weeks worth of cable refunded. I have never been so embarrassed to be "related" to someone before. Nothing is ever their fault and apparently everyone is out to get them for their money (or lack of lol).

I understand what you mean though. I've done the ship to store with Walmart and target. All good experiences, but it only takes one little mistake to mess it all up.

When my little sis was in her first year of undergrad, she worked at Bennigan's. She ended up finding another job because she couldn't take the people who would complain about every little thing in the hopes of getting a free meal. One lady broke off a piece of fingernail, put it in her mostly-eaten food, and demanded free grub! The bartender saw her do it so she didn't get away with it, but man, the nerve of some people.

I found a piece of plastic in my (mostly eaten) meal at IHOP once. As I handed my card to pay I politely let the waitress know, just to make sure nothing was breaking in the kitchen. She took the plastic to the manager, then came back to tell me nothing like that was in the kitchen so it couldn't possibly have been in my meal, but that her manager said she HAD to comp my meal. I fully intended to pay since I had eaten most of it, but her attitude about it made me mad. I'm not going to break my teeth to save $11.

Was it the IHOP in JC?

I worked in the restaurant biz for quite a while. I saw people put stuff in their food intentionally or just complain for nothing a lot. It drove me nuts. You can usually tell when someone is lying, but I am sure sometimes there are mistakes. I remember once a lady said she had hair in her food. Her, her kids, and her husband were smirking and snickering the whole time and whispering to each other back and forth while I was at the table. The were blatantly lying, but I couldn't do anything about it.

Another time I had a couple come in a few times and every time they did, they would complain for free stuff. Eventually, my manager told them if they weren't happy not to come back again. They didn't. I was glad because they were ridiculous. I remember they told me their ribs were cold. So, I literally waited at the window for a fresh rack. He pulled them off the grill, and the plate (the plate was also very hot) was on their table within a minute. They looked at it, barely touched it, and looked straight at me and said "This is cold". That is when my manager had enough.

There was a group, we called the "gypsies". They would try their to get their whole meal comped every time they came in with excuses like "I didn't eat it all" and "I just wasn't happy" all the time. My manager told them not to come back after they tried forever trying to get a $200 meal comped. I comped a couple things, but they just kept coming back at me with more and more they wanted for free.

I could go on for days with the idiots that came in.

Ahh, customer service does seem like it has gone down hill everywhere though. I always leave feedback on their websites if it is very good though.

I don't understand. If you have the money to eat out, then eat out; if you don't, don't eat out. More establishments are getting hip. They won't argue with you if you try to mess around with your bill; they just call the cops, and the cops tell you that you have to pay and work out the matter in civil court later on.

It was an IHOP in Tulsa.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I traveled to Maryland because my father was in a clinical trial at the NIH. We spent 3 days in DC and my morning sickness made me unable to finish a meal, and almost every restaurant there offered to comp us since I hardly touched anything. I still payed of course, but it was definitely nice of them.

I know someone like that hear in germany. Everytine she goes and ears at px she complains about something. Well she is on watch when she goes and eats at food court. Like they ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut and they said no olives because apparently she is highly allergic to them. They tried to claim that their was an olive in their pizza. The manager I formed her if you have an allergy to a food the. You need to let us know because we use the same knife to cut he pizza if you tell us then we will wash it before we cut your pizza. So they made her a new pizza the manager made it and she tried to tell them she had an allergic reaction again she goes no you didn't I made your pizza and I cleaned that knife before I cut your pizza!! As my neighbor said if you have a allergic reaction from a place why would you go back? I've bee told she just pulls this crap to get free food and now all the places in food court have bee. Warned and told to watch her of she comes in

It makes it hard for honest people to get good service when you have morons whom act like jerks.

I took mu daughter school shopping at mall in manhattan a couple of yrs ago. And the clerk forgot to take security tag off an item. When we left it didnt ring the steing thing, i dont know what it is called. Anyway by the time we noticed it was on there and i tried to go back to the store,to get them to take it off. I was accused of stealing the item by the clerk who forgot to take the dang thing off. Needless to say another woman happened to walk in right behind me with the same issue, and the same clerk did ot to her. We spoke to the manager and the young lady was let go.

I didnt feel bad at all either.she made a mistake but tried to be rude and cover it up.

And i reported two teens steeling at px. I got told unless employee saw it. There was nothing they would do.

Seems honest people get shafted. And crooks get blessed. Go figure.

There was one day I went to Wally World and I went to the Deli to get a baked chicken and there weren't any on the shelf, I stood there waiting 20 minutes for someone to come and when the lady showed up she didn't even ask if she could help me. Finally I asked if she could tell me when the chicken would be done...her answer I don't know. I asked if there was a way she could find out and she rolled her eyes at me. Up until that point I had been polite but that was the last straw. I went to customer service and asked for the manager and I explained what had happened. I normally dont complain but his was uncalled for. I didn't know what happened to this woman until a few weeks later I was back in the store and there was a soldier looking for dinner rolls and I heard him ask the same lady if she could help him and she said...no I am on break and I really don't care. ..... really? This lady was in her 60's but had an attitude of a 14 year old. It was disgusting. I wonder if she got fired because I havent seen her in there in a long time.

If shes on break, she shouldn't be anywhere that customers can see her.

Customer Service is dead because we dont demand better. Ask for a manager, Leave a low tip, Fill out an ice card. Hold people accountable for their actions. BTW if your service is great do the same(high tip) Ask for a manager, fill out an ice card. You MUST train your servers to do well. And you must vote with your dollars. I had great service the other day at On The Border in Topeka, young man got a 20% tip. I also fill out 2 Ice cards per week, one good and one bad. Make sure you balance the good comments and the bad ones. Does not have to be the same place, but compliment the good ones too
