I have an out-of-state driver's license; in applying for a Kansas license, do I have to go through the whole exam, including driving portion, like when I was a kid again?

DollLikeDeceptions --- 12 years ago -

I don't think so...it's been years since I switched state DL's but I haven't done a driving test since I was 15! I'm thinking you MIGHT have to do the test but it's open book from what I remember.

I dont believe so as far as driving goes... I think you may have to take exam.... call 238-1814 to make sure.

In got mine in ''09 and all I had to do was to the eye exam. Then wait a week for it to come in the mail

notsue --- 12 years ago -

If its not expired they wont do anything but eye exam (tho they forgot to do mine). You are basically transfering your license to this state.

Perfect timing of this question! I was just fretting over the DL situation last night!

Oh, that's awesome; maybe now I can have a license picture where the photographer doesn't snap a photo of me looking like a crack head!:P

Federal law passed two years ago, Military and Dependants DO NOT need to change license to new state when they move, You can renew your original one. Most states allow this online or by mail. Additionally several states will let Active Duty Military keep license and it will not expire as long as they are Military(Must have ID card with License to prove it). Thats goes for License Plates as well.

I think we are settling in the Sunflower State; so, the new license (and new pic :P) makes sense.

Sure, I just didnt want anyone in Military (or Dependants) thinking that had to get one in KS just cause they moved here. Every dollar(or $25) helps. My WA License says "Military" for expiration, I just have to let them know new address.

My friend argued with a cop one time over by hope when she got pulled over. He goes I could give you a ticket for not having s Kansas license. She goes I'm not a resident of Kansas we are military. He goes you as the wife have to get a Kansas drivers license. She goes well I am not a resident of Kansas I don't pay Kansas state tax and their for I'm not getting s Kansas drivers license. Lol but good to know you don't have to anymore. I never did when I was stationed there and the few times I was pulled over no one said anything.

Speaking of license I don't think Iowa has the online renewal option. I have to fill out some fourm to send to Iowa to get an extension on mine. We are in Germany and mine expires in 2014 we won't be back till 2015 Ish

That particular officer was sorely misinformed, and had he tried to push his Alpha Male attitude on her and given her a ticket, when she went to court the judge would have handed him his rear end. The Military Spouse Act that repealed the necessity to get a new license just because you PCS'd and moved to a different state has been in effect since 2009. Where has he been, lol?

Ya he only gave her the speeding ticket I don't remember if this happened the 1st time she was in ks from 07-09 or if it was since she had been back last yr. I want to say it might have been before the law went into effect.

If I had a normal drivers license that was eligible for renewal by mail I would have kept my Texas license. I dont have that option tho, so I'll have a Kansas license while I'm here and will switch back if I ever find myself back in Kansas.

A butthole officer told me the same crap back in South Carolina. They had the street I live on blocked off and they were checking IDs before they'd let anyone in. I did notice that he didn't start with the threats about my California driver's license until I asked him why I had to show ID to get into my own home I was paying money for though, lol.
