Good morning all. I would just like to get on my soap box for a minute about BooKoo and get ya'll opinions, thoughts and stories too on the matter. TeeC has a thread on a similar issue and girl I feel ya!
Does anyone else get kinda suspecious when you have a add up for WTB (wanted to buy) and you get a responce that goes like this " i have great stuff for you, plz call 555-555-5555. u wont be dissapointed" ? I mean I am very apricatitive I have a responce to my add buttt that sound hinky. I'm thinking "Can you just explain the condition, price, color and such in that email instead?" I don't like to call because of two reasons. One being I do not like my phone number being known by a stranger right off the bat and two, I am phone shy..That is my fault but its the truth.
I guess the phone number is the main rant. I do put a price and OBO on my things. I know it can be annoying to have OBO on things for sale but I swear it does not mean I am being sneaky. I am pretty much letting ya know I won't bite your head off if you have a lower offer. What do ya'll think on pricing things.
I sometimes change my prices (once not a gazillion times). I do not put a "change prices" add up. Not that those bother me at all. I do not email previous inquires that I have lowerd my price either. Just out of not wanting to bother them..Like a slick salesman :). What do ya'll think? If I lower my prices is it nessary for me to let all know or it it fine leaving it be? I just don't want to be annoying.
Ok, I don't really do trades either. I have a item that is above $300 up for sale. I got a email from someone wanting to trade a PSP and a few games for it! I said I had no use for games. I don't mind responding to such nonsence but C-O-M-E O-N! No I will not trade a $300 item for a PSP and games. I think I know the girl and know the family has no use for the item therefor just wanted a $300 dollar item to resell and only lose out on a PSP and games (that may or may not have worked).
I have some Raves too. I really apricate kind and thorough responces or even inquries. I do not mind people asking for more photos or more info by way of email. I understand being a Seller (most of the time) the Buyer wants and needs as much info on a item because its their money they will be spending.
As a Buyer, at times, I understand when I want to buy something if I do not get a responce it maybe because the email I sent went into their spam folder. Or I assume they already sold it. Its not a big deal but I would like to see the item marked as sold, on Bookoo, so I don't worry about my emails possibily being unseen.
Ok, I am stepping off my soap box now :) Step on up ya'll!

I don't use bookoo (just browse occasionally when bored) so I don't have an opinion, but I wanted to let you know I'm with you on the phone thing. You can dial *67 before the phone number to block your number from showing up, and/or you can also get a free phone number from google if you have a cellphone! I got one last year when our dogs got out of the back yard and I didn't want to post my actual phone number on missing flyers all over town.

LovMySoldier --- 12 years ago -

I agree with the phone thing also, I do sale stuff on there and make it very clear that I will not call or text them, but I still get people emailing me saying to call or text them the info. Im with you I dont like people knowing my number and I am very phone shy.

donewithitall --- 12 years ago -

ToriT, I did not know that about google. I may try it. Lov, I am glad to know I am not the only phone shy person here :).
I will, however, give my number out after a few emails back and forth. I understand if I have a few very expencive things, a buyer needs all the info and sometimes that needs done over the phone. I just don't like the right off the bat "hey tx me" or "call me" without any info. I don't want my toes ending up in jars in someones basement....Maybe I collest toes so why give your number out so generously?! Just kidding..I like fingers... :D

I am one of the "good" sellers--if I do say so myself :D.

I take good pictures from all angles of the items I sell. I also price things way below what they're worth; I'm not out to rip anyone off or get rich. When I get responses, I put the names in order on an Excel spreadsheet that I made for selling on bookoo, and then I call back in the order I was contacted. If I get no response, I go to the next person on the list and so on and so forth until it's sold. That's the most organized method I've found to sell. It avoids situations where someone tells you to come and pick an item up Friday, then when you get there they look flustered and say, "Oh...that one's already sold." Disorganized, much O_o?

I also think most people just don't take selling seriously. There is a lot more to doing it than just collecting the money. The items have to be cleaned (if necessary), photographed, posted with a good description--and then the fun begins when you start getting responses. Some people are just too lazy to be good sellers--or buyers, for that matter.

That having been said, I still attracted a lot of duds on bookoo. I posted a nearly $300 for a whopping 40 bucks--and minutes later I got lowball "Will you take $10?" offers. Are you kidding? It's already WAY underpriced!

That's my pet peeve on bookoo. People not taking good pictures and not giving clear descriptions of the items. I once asked a person what the measurements of a large picture frame was that they were selling. She responded saying, "Very big." Really? That's perfect! I was looking for a very big frame. Geez.

LOL
I take a lot of photos also, and i try to describe my item to the best of my ability, including size, measurements, approx. age, used or new, i make sure it is cleaned and that it comes from a smoke free home but with cats.

Some of the pictures I have seen make me think why would you post that, clean up first lol or my favorite is it needs to be cleaned but you can do it with no problem, if it wasnt a problem then why didnt you clean it before posting it!

Amen sister, lol. I saw a nice, real wood bookshelf or Riley bookoo that would have made a nice addition to my husband's study--if not for the fact that there was a layer of dust on it thick enough to plant potatoes. Ugh. I've seen people post microwaves with burned food still on the rotating plate inside, clothes with dirt and stains on them, and vacuum cleaners where the dirt cup wasn't even emptied. Come on--use common sense.

If you don't care about the item enough to clean it, I automatically draw the conclusion you didn't take very good care of it while you had it. I understand that people sometimes have things in storage and then sell them, but they can still grab a rag and dust them off before taking pictures.

Orrrr another of my favorites is the threat "if you dont buy it im junking it or donating it to the thrift store" Well that makes me just want to jump and buy it right now! LOL

You'd probably get it cheaper at the thrift store than buying it from the person selling it lol.

If he can find a good home today, I will go down to 150$ at the lowest! You will be responsible for his heart guard though! Tomorrow, the price will go up!

Seriously? A sale on a dog? Really? I wonder if she accepts competitors coupons too. SMH!

The extra use of exclamation points is really annoying! Not to mention it doesn't make the ad any more appealing! Wow! Someone is really trying to unload that dog!!! LOL

I wonder how many people email the seller and say, "Cool; can you tell me which thrift store you're taking it to :)?"

LovMySoldier --- 12 years ago -

omg i amm 99.9% sure that is a puppy i had and sold it to her, within a few hours of selling him i knew i had made a mistake and begged her to get him back. I missed him so much, I cried for weeks over the mistake I made. My cat was being very mean to him and at the time I made a wrong decision and sold him, as soon as he was gone I knew what i did was wrong, she said no you cant have him back, i fell in love with hima nd so did my kids. My husband even offered them MORE then what they paid for it to get him back and she said no it isnt about the money i cant ripped my kids heart out...but now shes selling him ! If i had the moeny id get him back.

Gemini09 --- 12 years ago -

She was all over Fort Riley Army Wives trying to sell him. I guess someone got onto her for getting rid of him, so she deleted her post. Then started a new one.

LovMySoldier --- 12 years ago -

wow that turns my stomach, do you happen to know if she said his name? she may have changed it but his name was scout

TeeC that is great! There is no reason to be pissy when your a seller on bookoo. It is not good business. Trust me, there are pleanty of justifiable reasons to be pissy because there are so many wackado replies to your add and people being inconsiderate. BUT its just like a business, don't put for all buyers to see your frustration and threats. I would be leary to buy anything from someone who is, simpily and justified, frustrated over a previous buyer or poitental buyers actions because they put out negitive vibes. I would be afraid I would do something wrong and they would bite my head off...

anybody know where I might be able to sell the dresses I used for my wedding and the flower girl dresses that my daughters wore? I have had them posted on bookoo for like 2 weeks and am about to give up. Maybe a formal shop that does consignment?? I dont really even know where to start.
