If you do, I'm curious--have you ever had a problem with it?

brat82 --- 13 years ago -

I had one I just got rid of (trash) wise, i had it for about a year and it quit sucking all together. I cleaned the filter every 3 months like i was suppose to but yet it still lost suction. worst almost 550 i spent that lasted for a year.

a3131315uu --- 13 years ago -

yes i do!!!!! i love it! i got the one with i believe the yellow ball in front of it. it was the best investment i ever made:)

JustJenny --- 13 years ago -

I've had mine for about 6 years, but I think I'll be getting something new soon. I haven't really had any problems with it, but it doesn't seem to be anything spectacular, either. I doubt I'll drop that kind of money for another Dyson when I think I can get something just as good for less.

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I have the DC28 and I love it! Had it for about 2 years. Love it!! Best Investment ever!

Are we done yet --- 13 years ago -

The commercial came on for the dyson tonight and my son told me that he wants me to get one. I was like um no i felt guilty spending 140 on my shark navigator i couldnt imagine dropping 500 on a dyson.

TheMom --- 13 years ago -

I have the dyson ball (house warming gift .. I cant drop that cash on a vacuum) I really really really loved it at first. I think in part because I liked the adverstising that dyson does. I really really like Starbucks coffee too.. But I'm pretty sure that I just like their cups and the idea of getting a better product. In reality I can't tell the difference between any coffee from a gas station, burnt, McDonald's ... I'll still pay twice as much, drive on post and wait in line for it.
The yellow dyson ball is great vacuum but I've had it a little over a year and it does not work just as good it did the first day.
I say get a different good vacuum and spend the rest of the money dating your husband!!!

TheMom --- 13 years ago -

Ps.. We also have 2 golden retrievers so the fact that the vacuum works at all is a miracle.

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

We have one. I just got it a couple mos ago b/c our cheap Dirt Devil took a crap on us, and we got it on sale for around $300 vs $489 regular price. It's the one with the yellow ball. I have to admit I think it's worth it. We have 4 kids and 2 pets and it goes without saying it gets used A LOT! I like that you can use it on all types of floors. We live off post and our home has ceramic tile, hardwood, and carpet. It works on all of it. It has really good suction too! Also, yes, it is a good chunk of change but you have to realize Dyson's come with a 5yr warranty. Most vacuums are lucky to come with a year. You get what you pay for.

proud wife of a retiree --- 13 years ago -

I have one and I love it.... We have a golden and a long haired cat... can you say fur all over? lol but my dyson does an awesome job on it.... and we have never had a problem with it... I have had it about 4 years or so...

Mechelle --- 13 years ago -

I absolutely love my dyson. We've had ours for over 6 years with no problems whatsoever. I use it all the time and it still sucks as well as the first time i opened it. In fact, I believe in ti so highly that I try to ge tother people to buy one - especially allergy sufferers. I let them vacuum with their own vacuum, then use mine and show them what they missed - esp when it comes to having pets. It is truely amazing. I would highly recommend one. But I also know that I got mine at ft bragg when they first started coming out and got a 20% off coupon and it was on sale. Black friday almost always has good deals on them as well as woot.com whenever they come available. Kohls is also a good place to get one.

Tee C --- 13 years ago -

Thanks for all the information :).

The reason I asked is because I've seen a ton of Dysons on Craigslist for cheap; since one of the biggest pitches for a Dyson is that it never loses suction and never needs to be replaced, it makes me feel kind of suspicious that they're as long term as the company claims them to be. I also Googled Dyson reviews and was surprised at the number of people who said that they don't work 5 years later like they did when first purchased.

I have a Shark Navigator (which I loooooove) but actually considered buying a Craigslist Dyson so we could have one for upstairs and one for downstairs; now, I am not so sure...

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

Well if it doesn't work like when you bought it, return it and see if it can be repaired of replaced. Hence the 5yr warranty.

That's just the thing: Dyson's big pitch is 1) that their products never lose suction and 2) that they are worth the price because if you buy a cheap vacuum, you'll end up spending hundreds of dollars in the long run when it breaks and you have to keep replacing it. If those claims are true, why is the warranty only for 5 years?

Mechelle --- 13 years ago -

I'm not sure about the warranty being limited for 5 years. I haven't any problems with mine and I've had it for 6 years. Love it, love it, love it. And on woot.com - the home one, they have a brand new for $179. Have you looked intot he patriot vacuum? Theirs is absolutely amazing as well - but wwwwaaayyyyy more pricey than the dyson. Very top of the line, too.

mylife --- 13 years ago -

I bought mine 2 years ago and haven't had any problems with it, and I have 4 girls in my house and pets. I love it and wouldn't want anything else now!

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

Or, you can just buy a cheap piece of crap and have to keep buying one every year when it breaks. I guess it's your choice, but I love mine!

I have a Shark Navigator that cost $199; it works fabulously. Before that, I had a Bissell that cost all of $75 that worked fine for 7 years. I don't know what your idea of a "cheap piece of crap" is, but I do know that you don't have to spend $400 on a vacuum cleaner to get a good deal. Dysons break, too. The difference is that if a Dyson breaks and the company doesn't honor the warranty or gives the owner the runaround when they try to get it fixed, then they're stuck with a piece of crap, too. It will just be a more expensive piece of crap.

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

OMG! But you say it's fine and dandy to spend $400 on a dress you'll wear once? Do you even remember what you post? Seriously. Don't you have something to do other than be on here all day? If I remember correctly you aren't even stationed here anymore. Get a life. Normally I only go on here once every few days just to see what's going on b/c I DO have a life. I hardly ever post anything, but I'm kind of annoyed by you.

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

I'm not having a war of the wits with an unarmed person. I'm done. Seriously, this is stupid.

You definitely shouldn't be annoyed with me; you don't even know me. You should never allow someone to control your emotions like that, especially over the internet.

As for me being on here: no, I am no longer living at Fort Riley. If you feel that's somehow a violation of some rule, feel free to contact the Mods if it means that much to you. Second, I am recovering from surgery so I am spending more time on the internet now--thus, I'm here more often. But I am on paid sick leave and I go back to work on 4 June; is that okay, lol? Does it somehow make it better since I am in essence getting paid to be here?

And you're right; this is stupid. Not everyone is going to agree with you, and a dissenting opinion does not mean someone is personally attacking you. If you remember that, you won't get offended. I am still not quite sure why you are so "annoyed," but I can assure you that it isn't worth it. After all--we don't even know each other.

Have a great day, ma'am :).

Tee, were you stationed in Germany? I loved my European Miele and Bosch vacuums! They range in price range (200+ Euro there) ; but, if you can swing the hefty price(s) Stateside, Williams-Sonoma has vacuums that put others to shame. :)

We were in Germany and loved it :).
Our neighbors have Bosch kitchen appliances. You don't hear them! I mean the dishwasher was running and you literally thought it may have been a soft, misting rain falling outside...lol. I didn't know they made vacuum cleaners, though...thanks for the tip. I will have to check out Williams-Sonoma, too; I didn't know they made vacuum cleaners, either.

I really don't have a problem with Dyson; the research I've done just leans toward them not being what I thought they were. If I find a vacuum that is not built like a Rainbow or Kirby (meaning really bulky) and can be guaranteed that it will never malfunction, I won't mind paying thousands for it; I just don't want to pay $600 under the guise that it works fabulously and then end up buying another one or not having the warranty honored.

Cookie --- 13 years ago -

LOL, my family had a Rainbow vac when I was young. It smelled so nice. :)
