I took adipex back in 07 after I hit a plateau in losing all my pregnancy weight and it worked miracles. I heard that they will not prescribe it on post. Is that true? Also does anyone know any alternatives that might help with energy and appetite suppression? I want something safe though

UGrewInMyHeart --- 13 years ago -

I went to my doctor (Dr. Gooch) and spoke to her about my weight loss. She said she would put me on a phentermine type medication (I don't remember if it was that one or another one) to help, but she said my current medication (Adderall - for my ADD) already does what that medication would do (plus some) so just make sure I take my prescribed 2 a day. With that said, yes they do prescribe some type of weight loss / appetite suppressant medication on post. I'd definitely talk to you doctor about it.

Is dr.gooch at Farrellly? I have dr. Leslie and I doubt she will prescribe it. I've lost 20 lbs so far and haven't lost a single pound in two months, and I still have 30 more pounds till I'm at my healthy weight. So I would love some help again. I only took a month of adipex back in 07 but it jump started me off my plateau and helped so much

UGrewInMyHeart --- 13 years ago -

Yes, she's at Farrelly. Oh, I've heard of her (just her name, nothing else). I know when we first got married (17 months ago as of tomorrow lol) I weighed 50 lbs more than I currently do and I just recently actually started "trying", so that could have been why she was so open to getting me on something. I just can't eat much, so that's how I guess lol. I had already been on my current medication when I started seeing her though, so I transferred it to get it through her. It's still worth a shot to talk to your doctor about it, if that's not an option for her you could always check out the OTC ones? I've never tried any of them though, so I don't have any suggestions there.

I cant tell you who my dr is as i have only seen my dr to get on phentermine and mine wouldn't perscribe it to me. (but then what do you expect from a bigger lady herself) She told me that by IACH its against their regulations to perscribe it. Well like a month later i went in for my pap and the lady goes is there anything else i can do for you? I go not unless you can get me on phentermine she goes i cant get you on it you would have to talk to your dr I told her what my dr said and she says thats not true because she had a lady that was in there a week prior that told her that she was on it. I was like i know i, know someone that got on it here I just cant find the right dr to put me on it. I gave up on it im gonna wait till i get to germany and try going back to the dr again. I think the person that did my pap said you have to scedual an appointment with CTMC to get on it but i dont remember that was almost a year ago that she told me this

At first I read it wrong and thought you said "mine would" (not wouldn't), since you said the bigger lady herself line. It made think of Dr. Gooch (since she is a bigger lady), which is who spoke to me about a medication for weight, so must not have been her lol.

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

How do you get change doctors...because I would like to get dr.gooch not just for the phentermine, but because dr.leslie talks to me like I'm stupid sometimes, and I hate that.

Michelle84 --- 13 years ago -

All I can say is that medicine is awesome! I've been on it 2 weeks and have lost 9 lbs. Its just a thought but I heard that Konza dr on grant prescribes it(check to make sure) and they go off your income so maybe it wouldn't cost that much to go, not real sure but maybe that will help some people.

I'm not sure, I'd just contact Tricare or the clinic. She is a great doctor and very easy to talk to though. Due to my weight I used to feel uncomfortable going to the doctor, but she doesn't make me feel bad at all. I just wouldn't automatically expect any doctor to hand it over though (that might look rude, but typing it looks diff than it would sound lol), because if they feel you're not at a weight where you'd need it they might not be comfortable or even allowed to prescribe it. I know one of my friends (not military affiliated) had an issue trying to get it, due to her not technically needing it.

Ashlina --- 13 years ago -

I saw Dr. Gooch for the first time this week, and she prescribed me phentermine.
She is one of the only if the only doctor on post that will prescribe it, and only as a 30 day supply, which is good because overuse can cause need for lung and/or heart transplants as it is an amphetamine and basically speed.
You have to lose at least 4 pounds if you want another prescription.
Also, you cannot have it filled on post, and it costs around $32 a month.
Be aware of drug interactions, such as taking diabetic or antidepression drugs such as celexa as it can cause seratonin syndrome and other problems.
Overall, be careful with this drug. I know I will when I pick up my prescription.

Hopefully she'll think I'm a good candidate...I hate to put this on here but I'm 5 ft. And I weighed 180 after I had my baby a year ago, I was able to get down to 155 by exercising and eating right, but now Nothing for the past two-three months And for my height I'm suppose to weigh (on the high end) 130

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I lost 60lbs. In 6 months by using CTS 360. I also dieted and exercised. I plateaued but Im with in my weight for the military. I am going to see if I can't get an appt with Dr. Gooch because Im stuck! Id like to lose at least 10 more pounds.

lol whoever it was that would not give it to me worked in PCM 2 or (now called Medical home 2) Like i said the lady that did my pap said i would probably have to talk to CTMC to get on it. The reason why i weigh more then i should is i had kids back to back. My kids are 366 days appart (1yr 1day) I didn't get a chance to lose the baby weight from the 1st child before i had the 2nd. so i have double the baby weight now my kids are almost 5 and 6 yrs old. The PMC dr told me that she would rather see me take an exersize class which she had refered other people to and they came out with good results. Im like i don't have time for exersize classes i have 2 kids that i cant get a babysitter for to go to a class so the only exersizing im getting is at home with dvds or WII. Which im not progressing. hopefully when i go to germany whatever dr i get there will understand. I did try to get on it back home but i was only home for 2 weeks at christmas and they told me that they would give it to me but they wanted me to do a diet exersize plan for a month and write it all out on paper and if i have not progressed then they would perscribe it to me. I go well i guess you are not giving it to me because i wont even be here after a month of my diet plan. Im 5'3 and weigh 185 lbs. I mean i have till middle of june before i go back to iowa for 15 days before we leave for germany so i probably do have enough time to go get on it but im afraid of being shot down again for it. I thought about doing the CTS 360 but its so expensive.

If you go to Salina Womens Clinic you can get it. They charge $75 your first appointment, but then tricare covered it. So they refunded my money. And I have them call it into JC Walmart and it cost around $30. They will only do 30 day supply because they want you to come in every 30 days so they can monitor your weight and blood pressure.

Mandi --- 13 years ago -

You can go to Geary county hospital make an appointment with Dana Williams. Pay 115 for your first visit, then tricare covers it. You go every 30 days for check up and progress and a new refill. Go to dillons in junction and a 30 day supply is $12.79. I have my PCM on post but just go there because there's no red tape or hassle. Tricare covers it and they will refund you back your money or credit you towards your next visit of $35. And then tricare picks that up and they issue a refund. All I had to do was call and make an appointment no referral no nothing. Dillons is the cheapest place to get it filled in junction and manhattan that I've found.

EastCoast --- 13 years ago -

Mandi-- thanks for sharing that info, I have my apt with her Tuesday morning and was going to fill at Walmart because I figured it would be the cheapest. Now I'll go to Dillions. Thanks!!!

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

Thanks for the info Mandi, very helpful!

a3745605uu...
How did your appt go? Was thinking about doing that but little leary.

EastCoast --- 13 years ago -

It went well, everyone was very friendly. it's $118 for the first appointment and then $35 for every appointment after that (once a month) and you go in and get weighed, taped, BP check every 2 weeks for free. I do not have tri care but was surprised that my insurance did cover some of the perscription. But it wasn't $12 at Dillions in JC. It was $25 and after insurance It cost me $7 and some change. Started taking it today and so far so good. They are all really nice there.

Mandi --- 13 years ago -

a3745605uu-I'm glad you got in to see her. She's super sweet. I wonder if you having a different insurance since your insurance did cover it that's why they charged you $25.00. Tricare doesn't cover the phentermine but I double checked and to just pay out of pocket mine was $12.70, no insurance applied at all. Maybe you have a different dosage, who knows with pharmacies and insurance companies and why they do what they do, lol. I will never understand it. I hope you have a positive outcome with it, it definetly does work. I'm glad you got in so quickly with her office, that's the one thing I really like, is you can get in quickly and they are all super nice there.

EastCoast --- 13 years ago -

Mandi.. nokidding on the differences in pharmacies. My daughter has ADD and she needs to take a pill in the morning and anotehr in the afternoon. My insurance will only cover 30 pills in a month, so I have to pay for the other 30 out of pocket. The meds are $19.99 at Walmart. Since I was at Dillion's filling this script for myself anyway, I went a head and got hers filled. I was floored when they charged me $43 for it! How can they charge over double what Walmart does?> Boggles my mind! So I guess I'll go there for my meds and go to Walmart for hers lol.

I'm currently taking phentermine. I was prescribed it by Ms. Watt in PC2. I went in and told her that after 4 kids, I had put on extra weight that I just couldn't get to come off no matter how much I worked out and watched my eating. She put me on it no problem. She will go up to 4 months, with 30 days at a time. You have to go in every 30 days to get weighed and its very simple. If you don't lose weight, you don't get a refill. The second and third month for me, the weight loss really slowed down to a trickle. From doing some research on phentermines website and blogs, I decided to come off it for a few weeks. I stopped taking it for 3 weeks and when I went back on, I lost 11 pounds in 6 days and didn't do a single lunge, lol. I'm back on track now and losing steadily. Ms. Watt says she will do 4 months, but if you're super close to your goal weight, she will do up to another 2 months. Phentermine has worked so well for me and Ms. Watt is wonderful! I will recommend drinking tons and tons and tons of water! You'll want to anyway, because Phentermine makes you very thirsty, but keep drinking till you think you're going to float away. It really helps Phentermine kick in. Eat lots of protein and veggies and fruits. Because it reduces your appetite so much, this is a great time to relearn to how eat and what a real portion is and shrink your stomach, so that when you're done with your presecription, you will feel full quickly and won't overeat as much. I've lost 39 pounds in 3 months and I could not be happier. I feel so much healthier and younger. I love it! Good luck to you!!

EastCoast --- 13 years ago -

Congrats on your weight loss! Your right about the water. She told me I needed to drink 10, 8oz glasses a day. I drink bottled water so it's 5 a day. I visit the bathroom a lot more than I use to, but I feel hydrated!

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

So today I'm going to try and go up to tricare to change my pcm (I say TRY to because I'm at home with my two little ones, and watching two other little ones, so it all depends on if my hubby can come home). So which dr. Should I be asking for, dr.gooch or dr. Watts?

michelle --- 13 years ago -

I have no idea about Dr. Gooch, but I love Mrs. Watt. She's just the right amount of serious, funny, sarcastic, caring. She's never talked down to me and I feel like she always listens to what I have to say and really takes me seriously. I like her very much. Good luck!

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

So I went to tricare today to try and change my PCM to dr.gooch or dr.watts....yep that was a no go, they are both completely filled with patients...so they put me with dr.ligia.....don't know him/her but my bet is she probably won't prescribe it to me. Does anyone know....or am I just destined to stay fat forever?

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

Anybody have dr.ligia?

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

Bump :)

UGrewInMyHeart --- 13 years ago -

You're not overweight by much, so it might be tough to even get on a weight loss type of medication (prescribed from a Dr. that is). You can definitely lose weight without any type of pills, but there are all kinds out there over the counter. There's things like those full bars (appetite suppressant snack bars). Best of luck.

a1796458uu --- 13 years ago -

I'm just having to push myself harder, which is hard because I have four kids (I'm a sahm) and I watch two kids from 7:30 till 5:30 all week long, so between watching the kids, taking care of my kids and husband, and doing my chores there is not a lot of time to relax or do anything else, so I'm just using my few hours of off time and just filling them with continuous exercise. It sucks because other then sleeping at night now, I have no time to actually sit down and relax....but I would rather be exhausted and workout and feel good about my body, then getting to enjoy a few moments of peace and a few moments with my husband and hate my body.
