hershey kisses --- 13 years ago -

if hes got registration papers saying hes full blooded bull dog then you need to show housing those papers take him to the vets and have them write you up a paper showing hes not a pitbull..also you can do a dna thing that will show what breed he is ...look it up online its actually easy to do and not very much ...also tell housing your appealing them

janiedoer --- 13 years ago -

I was going to say them same thing. Take the papers to housing.

Amber --- 13 years ago -

haha! An American Bulldog is NOT a pitbull...did you show them the papers you got with him? Housing is just dumb when it comes to stupid things..but when its important they don't want to do a darn thing. JUST HAVE TO "LOVE" THEM!!! NOT!!!

3lilmen --- 13 years ago -

they are gona do a walk through my house 2morro to see if he is gone and im gona show them the papers and pay them there fee goes im sure thats all they are after thank you ladies so much i just dont want to give him up

Pet Policy

Print that out and show Picerne. Give them the dogs papers. You shouldn't have any problem, as long as the dog doesn't have a history with your neighbors that could come up. Your neighbors and Picerne are idiots.

EastCoast --- 13 years ago -

I know what you are going through. i dont live on post but I have a white English bulldog and he does look a lot like a pit until you stand them next to eachother. He weighs 100 pounds and is much taller. I can't even take him for a walk in town. Every single time the cops stop us saying the neighbors called in a pit running around and said it was illegal to have a pit and they would call animal control.

The older gentlemen that works for animal control knows my dog now because he's been called so many times (people drive by and see him in our fenced yard and call claiming he's a pit) Once the animal control guy and the cop argued about him not being a pit. The animal control guy says he's not a pit and the police still try to say he is. They basically told me if I'm going to walk him I have to have a copy of his vet records indicating that he is not a pit with me at all times. I understand people's concerns since pits are illegal but if you aren't 100% sure then you should mind your own buisness!!! I hope you can get it worked out.

An American Bulldog considered a Pit. Wow thats lame. I didnt know you could just take one breed of dog and call it different breed of dog just because haha. I hope everything goes well for you!

Darn, if you had a letter from your doctor informing housing that your dog is your "therapy" dog you wouldn't have to pay any fees. I know my doctor brought up that having a therapy dog (having a dog around) to me a few years ago when I got my dog and said she'd give me a letter in case I move somewhere that doesn't allow dogs and/or would save me fees.

soldierboy54 --- 13 years ago -

This is not a "housing " issue, but Ft. Riley headquarters -- FR Reg. 40-8 paragraph n. section (1) states certain breeds are no longer allowed on Ft Riley. They are as follows: American Bulldog, American Pit Bull, American Staffirdshire, and about 8 other kinds. I have PitBulls and They are loyal and I love them. But those are Garrison regs.

Amber --- 13 years ago -

they are NOT banned...they have restrictions...6ft fence, muzzle while outside, if on leach can't be longer then 6 ft. and a $1000 insurance policy on them. If you have any other questions about them...call the mp desk and talk with them about it. 239 6767.

Here are a couple websites with the fort riley policies...like I said...if you have any questions...call the mp office and they will be able to help you out with any questions as well!

ladies thats awsome because the whole reason i got the dog was because of my doctor saying it would b good for me since sadly to say but i am on antidepres pills and first thing 2morro i will go get that letter also its says nothing about an american bulldog being band from post they fall under a whole different breed im so excited with that letter his shots and his papers i should be good thanks again

Joseph --- 13 years ago -

Pay attention to the date's of the FR Reg 40-18. The Memorandum For Record that you posted was dated for 20 Feb 2009 stating that on 01 Feb 2009 certain breed's was no longer allowed on post (meaning banned), superseding the 19 Dec 2008 FR Reg 40-18. There is an updated FR Reg 40-18 stating this.

As for the MP's, they don't always have the correct information to research. So, no fault to that soldier for there record's of FR Reg's or Memorandums being in accurate.

I, myself do not agree with it. But it is what it is.

Amber --- 13 years ago -

I know about the dates...they were the most recent I could find. My husband is an MP and I had him talk with multiple different MPs about the dog policy..and thats what he told me. I also wish people wouldn't stereo type dogs by breed...The Breed really has nothing todo with the way they are...its the humans that make them the way they are...or the way they act...maybe we should banned the peoople instead...lol

UGrewInMyHeart --- 13 years ago -

@3lilmen - yes definitely get a letter from your doctor. It will save you the hassle of deposits / pet rent (where applicable). Say you move on post you won't have to pay pet rent, etc. Also, I know from VERY recent experience, Picerne DOES accept therapy dog letters =) Best of luck to you!! :)

3lilmen --- 13 years ago -

jst wanted to say that housing never called or came by which i am very happy about lol but first thing monday if they are open i will go and give them there deposit cause im sure thats all they want and that i get to keep my dog

Sparta --- 13 years ago -

We have a bulldog and live on post. You have to have him on a 6ft leash with a muzzle at all times that he is not IN your house or car. Even the dog park. If you get a fenced in yard that is the only exception.

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

The fence does not have to be 6ft. As a matter of fact the ONLY way you can get a 6ft fence is to get an exception to policy for the fence and get an approval letter from Picerne. Its hard to do, as it took me months to do it.

Ashsfanatics00 --- 13 years ago -

Does this fall under English bull dogs too?

Sparta --- 13 years ago -

Who said 6ft fence? That would be an eyesore!

I dont think so, arent english bulldogs the little chubby ones?
