Came home from work at 5, the house temp is 82 degrees...call housing and tell them that i have young kids....they tell me my wait could be 4 hours!!! YALL, I LOST MY MIND...this is a residence, we all pay a significant amount of money to live here, and AFTER HOURS THAT IS WHAT IM TOLD...thankfully someone got here in two, but seriously, they are quick to write you up for dumb stuff but cant come fix an air conditioner in a house with children....WRONG ANSWER PICERNCE!!!

notsue --- 13 years ago -

Its not like you are gonna die from being in an 80 degree house for 4 hours. Christ, settle down.

Camillia --- 13 years ago -

I cannot handle it when its that hot either but I have asthma that is sensitive to heat among other things.

CHHL --- 13 years ago -

Four hours is not long at all to wait for an emergency such as no air when it is cooler outside than in your home. There are many others haveing issues as well and only so many people on staff resolving emergency issues.

I hope they can fix the problem for you though.

Lilspitfire --- 13 years ago -

I was without my ac for 6 days and it was between 82-85 in my house and I have kids but its not considered an emergency here so they could have taken 2 weeks if they wanted to. Be thankful for what you have some people dont have AC at all.

Camillia --- 13 years ago -

It is very nice out tonight! Im sitting on my balcony as I type!

YeahRight --- 13 years ago -

I don't like to be hot either, but I think your reaction to this situation is rather strong. I don't care for Picerne either, and I get frustrated with them too; however, I try to handle it in a mature, no nonsense manner. I personally think when so many go off in an immature fashion, it makes it harder for the rest of us to get them to take us seriously and get things accomplished. Life is about rolling with the punches...save yourself the stress! Besides, considering late afternoon is the hottest part of the day around here, 82 degrees after five in Kansas isn't bad at all.

UGrewInMyHeart --- 13 years ago -

Yeah, we've had the A/C on in our apartment (off post), BUT we've had it turned up to where it only kicks on when it gets super hot OR we'll have it off and have the fans running. Man fans, windows, and balcony/patio doors are a wonderful thing =)
Speaking of that, we have our patio door open and fans on right now :) lol

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I called because my AC froze over and had to wait 2 days because they said its not considered an emergency, I would have been happy with 4 hours.

Rich and Mia --- 13 years ago -

Oh my stars, ya'll are so spoiled (just kidding). In Germany, no one on post has AC. And, if you think of getting fresh and buying a very expensive portable one, you'll get caught: and that's a big no no. LOL.

FYI, hotels and restaurants are the same way. And last year, the daily temps hit the hundreds.

Come to think of it, the shoppette candy bars are always melted because they don't have AC; oh yeah, neither do the offices our troops work in. Huh.

Are we done yet --- 13 years ago -

Really? its not concidered an emergancy. Um im pretty sure that When i have called in a work ordered that needed to be done rather quickly during the day they told me that since mine wasnt an emergancy to them (idkwhat it was i called in for.) They said it would be a little bit even maybe the next day before they got out becuase they had Air conditioning to fix before they could come out becuase that was priority. Same if your heat is out so idk what the heck they are talking about. WE had our AC and also heat heat go out before and both times around like 10pm they were there by 11 and had it done by 1130 or 12. I guess it just depends on what neighbor hood you are in rather you get that fixed quickly or not and how hot it was outside. It wasnt bad last night maybe around 5 becuase between 5-7 its usually about the hottest point of the day but it wasnt even bad last night.

trina818 --- 13 years ago -

Sorry if I seemed upset, I was. It was just me and two very hot babies....I dont have four arms and the ability to sooth them both. I just feel like that is thier job and because I pay so much to live there they should respond timely. they are quick to write up residents for everything, but dont take the time to see to the issues with the housing. It is just my opinion!!!!

trina818 --- 13 years ago -

If you would have seen those kids, you probably would have acted like me, but you are right no one died!!!

Did anyone else live on post during the December 2007 ice storm? It left more than 8,000 people-myself, three kids, and two pooches included-and 80 percent of homes without power. That lasted more than a week. We were lucky and stayed with friends in Ellis Heights-for nearly a week-who still had power. Some may recall the treacherous weather, black road conditions, and bitter cold. Those less fortunate had to stay in shelters with strangers, or in barracks if I remember correctly. I won't touch on the Chapman tornado, but some might argue that puts things in perspective.

trina818 --- 13 years ago -

that was due to other conditions....my air was out because they have not checked and done maintnance...

Rich and Mia --- 13 years ago -

Sorry, no red herring intended. I am not trying to make fallacious arguments regarding your situation. I am recalling a separate incident in which heating went out on post housing. Some might argue the conditions were quite severe as it was below freezing temperatures; folks were without heating, there was no power at all to cook or keep food stuff from perishing, etc.

Are we done yet --- 13 years ago -

I was also here during the ice storm that did sucked luckily my i knew a familiy from my home town that knew someone in ellis that had power so thats were we wen to stay also. but trina is right there is a difference between the weaher knocking the power out and them just not doing their jobs and checking the filter doing their rutine check up like they are suppose to do every so often.

My air went out not too long ago. Basically my unit exploded without the fire and explodiness haha. We didnt have air for about 1-2 weeks. We had 2 window units and that kept it just below 90* in the house. It was brutal but we had to wait for them to order a new unit for outside and of course my air went out right before the weekend. I know it sucks (I also have kids and they were miserable and a husky...poor guy) Just give them time and they will get to it. They were really helpful when mine went out. It sucked but it made me respect my grand parents more who lived without air and didnt complain.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

Listen, all I was trying to say was that 4 hours is still a rush, if they told you wait til tomorrow, that'd suck. Personally I cant sleep thru the night if its above 70 in my house. During the day tho, if I was stuck with out AC, and it was warm enough, I'd give my babies a cool bath. They looove water. We could also play outside in the sprinkler and what not. Lots of options for cooling off with out AC for a temporary thing.

Be happy you werent one of the people who had a pipe bust and have your home fill with water. That is something I wouldnt wait 4 hours for. :)

Cristy --- 13 years ago -

I agree 4 hours is not bad at all! You could always go to the store or sit in your car if you really HAD to have Air or like notsue said cool bath's, sprinklers etc. I have two babies too and we have had ours go out and while it's not fun you have to remember they are human and there are a LOT of problems here on post they have to take care of and there are only so many people to get it all done. Be glad it was just your air and not your plumbing like mine. Try living in a house with two babies and no working toilets or showers! FYI I was patient and they were very nice and got everything fixed ASAP

trina818 --- 13 years ago -

Hindsight, probably an over reaction. But i am over it!!!!!!!!!

Hindsight, probably an over reaction. But i am over it!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe you overreacted. People react differently to certain situations; it doesn't make you or them any more right or more wrong.

I am one of those people that expect a lot for my money, so I would have been upset, too. I don't handle the heat well; we have lived in the California desert and in Texas, and I am still not used to the heat. So, to each his (or her) own :).

I pray everyday that we never have to go thru anything like that ice storm ever again in my lifetime.
