I took my 6 month to the ER tonight and the civilian male nurse checking us in was very rude and condescending, when he asked what was wrong and what had I done to fix it and I said nothing, I didn't know what to do he replied with the smart remark, well the internet is a beautiful thing isn't it? After examining my son he said this has to be your first child huh? Like I did not even need to bring him to be checked out. Every time he asked me a question he asked with a sarcatic inflection in his voice and gave me dirty looks while I was talking. After telling me that I need to be reading baby books and learning when not to come to the ER he checked us in. When I finally saw the doctor he said that is was a good thing I brought him in and told me how to help my son and then scheduled me another appointment with my pcm. Why do they think they have to be rude to us because theyhate their jobs?

cassandra --- 13 years ago -

Yea I did...im wondering if it's the same old rude jerk that I had to deal with 6m ago...the male nurse that took my daughters vitals was an older male...didn't get his name but I wish I had cuz he was a complete jerk off...needless to say he talkd to me like I was stupid so he got the exact same treatment from me...then he lookd at me all crazy and I told him hey ask a stupid question guess wut you'll get a stupid anser...that's why I try not to deal with males in the medical field sum jus dnt get it or care

NicoleBaker0808 --- 13 years ago -

I am glad I got his name from the doctor, I am definatly going to complain tomorrow about how I was treated, and apparently how he treats others.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

I've only been to this one two times (two days in a row) and while there was a male triage nurse he seemed rather concerned with what was going on with my child. I had even asked him "If this was your child, would you be here right now" and he said "oh yeah". Could have just been one of those days where hes seen one too many people who shouldnt be there and it was bothering him. I know we all get that way in our lives... think about when you're on the road and you see one too many stupid drivers, you start getting annoyed at all of them even before they prove themselves stupid. We are all human.

Omg I know EXACTLY who you are talking about!!! My son had bronchitis back in March, he's had it several times every winter, as well as my daughter. Anyway, it wasn't a bad day, this dude is a straight up As*hole!!! He was older and at first I thought it was just me, but after hearing this complaint, I now know it's him...although there is another older triage nurse dude who is the complete opposite, he sounds like the "concerned" guy who was mentioned by notsue. And yes, the other douche bag acted as this was my first child (we have 3) psht, and basically told me to go home and let the infection run it's course, but of course I waited to see a doc so I could get him the antibiotics...what an idiot!

we had an issue with an older blonde female nurse once. My son had a seizure and some heart issues at the park one day and was rushed to the er by ambulance. Apparently this nurse was supposed to be his main nurse but there was also a male nurse in there helping to get my son all hooked up to the EKG machine and monitors. She was just rude to the male nurse from jump! All he was doing was trying to help so finally he left and a female soldier came in. They started asking my son what happened and apparently the older nurse felt the soldier was leading him with the questions she wAs asking so instead of being nice she bit her head off! This went on for about 10 more minutes and my husband lost it! Started screaming at the old nurse about how this was our child and if she didn't want to do her job then to get the hell out! They had to remove her from the room, I thought my husband would kill her! lol

amber --- 13 years ago -

The younger male nurse is Josh. He is wonderful! I worked with him at a nursing home in Manhattan. I agree about the older one though. I brought my infant in with 104 temp and a horrible cough and he ask me if he was my first... I said no this is my third baby! Then the Dr went on to act like I was over reacting... My 4 month old has a bad case of rsv... Not as dumb as I look I guess

DollLikeDeceptions --- 13 years ago -

Are you guys talking about the older tall head nurse? Everytime I see him he's in navy blue scrubs? I've delt with him with all my kids and myself and NEVER had an issue. In fact he was the one that defused the situation between my husband and that nurse and when we went to leave he gave my husband a piece of paper with the ice website on it and the nurse's name.

amber --- 13 years ago -

It was the older triage nurse who talked down to me... I'm a nurse too... I don't go to the er for a cold.

NicoleBaker0808 --- 13 years ago -

I am not even sure if I am talking about the same nurse, lol. Mine was 30ish and had a beard. I can understand some people have bad days but that is no reason to make someone feel like a bad parent for making sure their child is alright. My son had been crying all day long and screaming in pain, he had no right to act like I was wasting his time.

prayingforPCS --- 13 years ago -

I'm pretty sure this man I dealt with had a beard too...

prayingforPCS --- 13 years ago -

And was kind of fat...

prayingforPCS --- 13 years ago -

Sorry one more thing, he looked like upper 30's to young 40's

Stacey --- 13 years ago -

oh my, please ICE this. It should never happen and I am so sorry it happened to you.

DollLikeDeceptions --- 13 years ago -

oh no not the nurse Im talking about he has no beard

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I have had many rude nurses, but just as many nice nurses. I think people look more at the bad then the good. If I get a rude nurse, I become a very ****** person and I give it right back to them. Then I kindly explain at the end of my visit that if they would like me to be kind then I suggest they adjust their attitude that they will get what they give.

Addie --- 13 years ago -

I had a rude horrible PA lady. I cannot for the life of me remember her name now. But last year when I miscarried our first pregnancy, she seriously gave me hell and had no compassion. She treated me like I was faking the entire thing and when I told her what was going on, she asked me in a very rude voice how I "Even knew I was pregnant." Because I was bleeding and she thought it was just my period. :/ *facepalm* At the time I didn't know about ICE comments, or anything like that, however If I would have been "out for blood" in a manner of speaking so it is probably best I didn't.

But seriously.... 10 home pregnancy tests, and 2 tests done in the doctors office, plus a surrey of blood work, (the pregnancy test, (hcg test as well) were both done at the hospital and the results were suppose to be in my medical file that the PA lady had.

This is what turned me away from army doctors, PA's and basically anything to do with army hospitals. They are nitwits who "appear to have" no training. AND they lost all records and account of the event :/

I know that sometimes you do not have a choice, but I nor my child when it's born will not go to on post doctors in the states. We have a wonderful civilian doctor who tricare accepts, sure we have to go the extra mile to drive to her doctors office off post, but her quality healthcare is worth it to me.

I was in the Irwin ER real late on Saturday night/Sunday morning and I have never been treated so bad ever! I have a problem with ovarian cysts and I went in keeled over in pain and the nurses (one blonde woman and a scruffy guy) we really rude to me and my husband. My arm looks like a blueberry from them foolin around trying to catch a rolling vein trying to put my IV in and they refused to give me anything for the pain for hours, didn't come in and tell us what was going on until I hit the panic button and then the female nurse came in an was like "what do you need?" I don't get how these people still have jobs, but I know I am making a call to patient advocacy tomorrow.

NicoleBaker0808 --- 13 years ago -

To report anything about the hospital you contact ice, you do not have to have their names, this is the link to fort riley: http://ice.disa.mil/index.cfm?fa=site&site_id=17&dep=DoD

11BPrincess --- 13 years ago -

ICE complaints are surveys, no actual action gets taken from those surveys (I got that from Legal) Patient Advocacy is required to take some kind action for a resolution, I've always used them for issues at the hospital, that's where ICE sends your complaints anyway if they think it warrants a response.

YeahRight --- 13 years ago -

11B...really? I have only filled out two--one for the PX and one for the DoD sticker office, but both times I was directly contacted by someone in charge to resolve the situation. I went to the patient advocacy once over a physician's rude comments (he thought he was being funny) about my disability and nothing was done about it.

11BPrincess --- 13 years ago -

I've always dealt with patient advocacy, especially before there were ICE complaints. Legal told me that they may call if the department feels it's warranted but there's no guarantee and they definitely don't handle anything past contacting the customer. Either way as long as you get the result you want it doesn't really matter which avenue you use.

Corgan66 --- 13 years ago -

All ICE complaints get sent up to the Garrison Commander on a weekly basis. Included to him is the complaint and the action taken by the division in which the complaint was about.

YeahRight --- 13 years ago -

That is good to know if I ever have problems in the future. My issue was quite a few years ago (before ICE), and maybe the lady I talked to was inadequate at her job or she just didn't care. The two things I did file an ICE complaint on were addressed though, and it was in timely manner too!

Camillia --- 13 years ago -

@ 11BPrincess I have GYN issues too and hardly ever get a sympathetic dr on base unless its an OB which is hard to get an apt with. They dont understand how much it F'ing hurts! I wish I could punch them in the balls everyday so they knew my pain.

a1944512uu --- 13 years ago -

Something does get done with ICE complaints. They take them very seriously. It's my understanding that the complaints start at the very top with Post Commander and work their way down. I worked at a place on post and we received a few ICE complaints and they were no joke with making sure we fixed everything. ICE is great for complaints but they are also great for sending in a good note on someone. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. That if you do file an ICE complaint, as long as you put your information, they will contact you back.

NicoleBaker0808 --- 13 years ago -

I did put my info so hopefully i will hear back from them to see what they are going to do to fix the problem. Thanks.

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

My husband just took my daughter there a couple nights ago for ear pain. Long story short they gave her tylenol and sent them home after being there almost 4 hrs. Today I had to make her an appt b/c she was still in unbearable pain (she's only 5) and guess what? She has a full blown ear infection and even the doctor my daughter saw today was wondering why in the h*ll no one put her on any antibiotics! They are so dumb at that ER it isn't even funny. We live off post close to Geary hospital so from now on IF it's an emergency we are going there. I've been a couple times before and they have their crap together way better than at Irwin!

StevieRae --- 13 years ago -

I took my son there saturday night and dealt with the same male RN nurse. Blondish facial hair, name is brandon and treated me like crap. I spoke with the NCOIC on duty that night and he told me to do an ICE comment and that he would be emailing the SFC and the commander that oversees the er on a regular basis. He highly suggested I do the ICE comment, so Im suggesting the same to you guys. If its the same guy he was rude as could be.

NicoleBaker0808 --- 13 years ago -

StevieRae that is the male nurse I had on Sunday night, I got his name from the other nurse and also filed a ice complaint. Who knows why he would be that rude 2 days in a row?
