I am trying to decide between cable or Direct TV. Any likes or dislikes by anyone? Which would you suggest?

brat82 --- 13 years ago -

Hi, we just got rid of dishnetwork cause our satellite would go out at the drop of a dime and it would change stations alot, well we now have diretctv and i dont really have any complaints now. they actually got the pole in our backyard in so its steady, the channel guide is really easy to use im still trying to figure out the whole dvr thing but hubby is getting the hang of it. the only thing i dont like is you have to have a reciever in each room you want cable in, my boys are destructive so it worries me but overall im happy with it.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

If picture quality is important to you then get a dish, otherwise enjoy cable. So long as its set up properly, you shouldnt lose signal unless weather is really nasty. We never lost signal when it snowed, but when the storm clouds are really thick we'll lose it shortly til they pass. We started with cable here on post for a few months, drove me nuts so we went back to directv.

we had allegiance and we had no picture most of the time. Now we having DirectTV and its ok just expensive.

satex --- 13 years ago -

Thanks everyone. That's really helpful. I was leaning towards Direct TV, so that really helps. I appreciate it!!!

mrscope --- 13 years ago -

if you want a 100 dollar discount let me know :D we both get one if u go with direct tv

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

Actually I LOVE direct tv...

only time we've lost signal is during bad storms (which is expected) that's it. I love it!! :)

YeahRight --- 13 years ago -

We had DirecTV for years, and it was good. Now we have DISH, and not only is it cheaper, but we never lose our signal with them. I absolutely cannot stand Allegiance. It almost seems like they know they don't have to care since they are a monopoly when it comes to cable options on post.

armywife523 --- 13 years ago -

I like dish network better. its cheaper and we very very rarely have had problems with it.

~*Kandice*~ --- 13 years ago -

We have Dish. It has gone out like 3 times...all during super super bad storms. Picture is nice and their customer service is great. I had Direct Tv back home and I didnt like them so we went with dish here.

Gemini09 --- 13 years ago -

I wish I had Direct TV, we have a lot of problems with DISH.

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

We have Direct TV and it's good, just expensive.

Candace --- 13 years ago -

I loved Directv, never really had any issues with ours going out unless the weather was absolutely TERRIBLE. Our first year we had a special for $39 a month but once our first year ended it did get pretty pricey.

*kiowamechanicswifey* --- 13 years ago -

How much do y'all pay for direct tv? I have cox now and I am spending about 275 a month for internet cable and house phone (we were told they were the only ones to service ogden) and now we are looking at direct and were told it would only be 60 for tv and internet which is all we want

Michelle84 --- 13 years ago -

I hate anything to do with Cox communications. All we have is internet through them and I hate it. They came out to fix our internet last month and was like we don't know how to fix it because we don't work with that kind of router. When they called hubby yesterday and asked when they would get paid for them coming on a service call he told them you won't. haha. Love how my husband is so blunt....

Unless you have a rental agreement saying no satellite dishes then I'd say get dish or directtv (Kiowamechanicswifey), and I even know some people that if the landlord said not on the house then you can get a tripod and just put it in your yard.

Michelle84 --- 13 years ago -

Also Kiowa...We have dish and just the basic channels for $39 or $49 a month and then have cox for our internet and that is $49. So we have tv and internet for around $100 a month. :)

Jan...if you are wanting to switch, I know DirecTV will buy out any contract you are in to get you set up. They want us back, so they send us letters for that all the time.

My biggest issue with DirecTV is that they could never set up our DVR to record another channel while we were watching something else (this was at both houses we have lived at here). It isn't that big of a deal since I mostly use the DVR for when we are gone, but at times it would have been nice to utilize that feature since I was paying for it. Although, in their defense it is Picerne that won't let them drill more holes to run the necessary second line. Somehow DISH is able to set it up to record more than one channel without drilling more holes--I don't know if this has changed for DirecTV at all yet. Other than that and the fact they are a bit more expensive, I really didn't have any issues with them. I do notice I don't lose my signal as much with DISH, but I have to wonder if that isn't because it is mounted on the house instead of a pole.

Direct tv-- love it! I will say that it pays to call and check offers, they seem very willing to provide incentives.

mrscope --- 13 years ago -

Kiowa we have the premium which was 114 (7 dollars for the dvr, 6 for the service call whatever, and of course taxes all of those are not included in the 114. For centurylink we pay 59 for the highest internet and no phone. So u should save a little bit i think and they are now with verizon and you could get credit for that too

Gemini09 --- 13 years ago -

Kiowa, 275? Wow, when I had Cox we paid wayyyyyy less. That is crazy.

Gemini09 --- 13 years ago -

@Yeah, Really? Wow! I am going to have to look into that. We have a year left on this contract.

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I had Alliegence cable for 3 years then switched to Direct Tv. I wont go back to cable. I love my direct tv!. I had Dish but its not as good as quality as Direct tv...JMO you get what you pay for.

BadLuckMommy --- 13 years ago -

I have never had any issues with my DVR, or my HDMI. It depends on where you are located and the position of your satilite. That's what the sales rep told me anyways.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

In most cases you do get what you pay for, thats why we choose directv over dish, but in the case of cox... I disagree, they are usually just overpriced.

Jewelz --- 13 years ago -

i have directv on post and i pay like 45 a month with taxes and everything. I use century link for internet, and you get a discount for having directv. so

Gemini09 --- 13 years ago -

@Yeahright, I just talked to a guy at Direct Tv and he said they aren't currently running that promotion right now. :(

YeahRight --- 13 years ago -

That's a bummer! I will let you know next time I receive one of the cards in the mail, and hopefully you can get in on it then!

Addie --- 13 years ago -

We had direct TV and it was great (In junction city) We got a tons of channels and the bill was not too expensive (We had the next to largest package, as it had most of the same things the largest package had aside from the sports.

We disconnected our Direct TV to save money for the PCS, but when we get back we will defiantly be going with them again.

They are also cheaper for what we wanted than Cox would have been.

:) Hope this helps! Good luck!

Gemini09 --- 13 years ago -

Thanks, I really want it, but am not trying to pay that fee to disconnect. When I got here a year ago, I was told that they didn't offer Direct TV here, so I just went wish Dish. I should of asked around more. I was looking at there site, and if you sign up now, you get NFL Sunday Ticket free for 2011! My hubs would love that when he came home for R&R. I am so tempted, but we are trying to save every extra penny right now for vacation, and attorney fees.

Addie --- 13 years ago -

:) They did not charge us a disconnect fee because we are pcsing soon so we got lucky on that hand! :)
