We are just waiting for printed orders to move to fort lewis once we get them our report date is sept.
So i was wondering Which (in YOUR opinion) is better to do

A Full/Partial dity move or have movers move us?

We are a family of 5 and hubby is an E5 if that helps

(if we werent able to handle a full dity move i wouldnt be asking)

notsue --- 13 years ago -

We will always move ourselves when its an option... we have too much experience in it and are too good at it to not pick this option.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

Oh, and we are a family of 5 also :D

overit --- 13 years ago -

Full dity. We made money on the move and our stuff wasnt broken when we got there. We also had our stuff right away.

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

We also always move ourselves. if you can afford it w/o it affecting situations in your new place and here I'd def go with moving yourself.
Plus you get paid back for everything and sometimes more.

It's a pain moving either way you go, but at least you have and are responsible for your items! Plus no waiting when you arrive for your things!

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

Also we did full both moves.

CraftyMama --- 13 years ago -

About how much did you get paid to move your stuff... We are going to be PCSing from here up to Ft. Lewis WA. I know its different with weight and such but i am just trying to get an idea....we looked at some rental trucks and it will cost us between 1500-2000.

CraftyMama --- 13 years ago -

Yea we think were going to get stuck with having to do a full dity move anyways due to the army taking their time giving him his orders.

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

we got approx 4k back. Honestly I don't remember the exact amount bc it's split up w/ travel pay and etc. Sorry wish I could help more... But I do know that our Uhaul was right at 1000$ and that thing drinks gas.

So just be sure to save ALL gas receipts to turn in.

We have 2 children, moving from Fort Benning, Ga here to Riley.

We used the biggest uhaul and still had enough money to buy a W&D set, a TV, a nice desktop computer, and a handful of other things. I also bought all my boxes from lowes/home depot, used over 200 boxes. I had them all labeled and listed in a notebook so I'd know where crap is.

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

NotSue yes we got enough back to refurnish the living room (livingroom suit end tables coffe tables lamps) and the girls new twin beds and mattresses and a new desk and computer. haha. I was ssoooo excited!!!

Our first move to GA we used the money to pay off bills, while thats a good thing this move eas exciting to have a mid year christmas :)

we will def always full ditty move!! :

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

O and. I'm def using ur idea of the notebook next time I labeled boxes but still overwhelming.

notsue --- 13 years ago -

I numbered the boxes, and then in the notebook I wrote the contents under the number.

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

That's a great idea!!!

We did the partial dity-we got back a little over 5k. (moved 1,200 miles) But the only thing included in our part that we took, was the massive amount of "liquid" items they won't pack for you & almost all of our clothes bc I hate waiting so long for things to arrive.

little --- 13 years ago -

You are moving approx 600 more miles than that so expect a good chunk of change!

CraftyMama --- 13 years ago -

alright ladies thanks so much for the help We have decided to do a full dity move if they will allow us to. and we just got told by his chain of command that hubby SHOULD have his orders in hand in 24-48hours

and nope i wont belive anything till it happens never do!

jamiemommyof2 --- 13 years ago -

Good luck on your move :)

BusyMama --- 13 years ago -

We just moved ourselves into a house we bought from on post to off post here in JC. Cost wasn't a factor and wouldn't be if we PCS'd it's the work. We are both 31 (not that old, but not 20 either) and have 4 young kids and a dog. After this move we said HECK NO never again would we move ourselves. Our backs were killing us and it was stressful. No thanks. I'll let them do it and take my chances. Plus, you still get like $2000 back every time you move as long as you haven't moved more than once within that year.

Yea well i have a lot of stuff packed already and my brother in law is flying down here to help us pack up and get stuff done so he can drive up with my hubby our 2 oldest and my sister in law and their dad so he has a 2nd driver for his truck and a relief driver. My sister in law cant drive and i will be flying up to my moms and meeting them there since our youngest wont be able to handle the drive w/o being hospitalized and possibly losing him.

My husband and I are in our 30s also... hes well into them, hehe... we moved here with a child that turned 1 years old 26 days after we arrived, a 2.5 year old and an 7.5 year old... Moving is what you make of it, and how well you handle it depends on what you are already used to doing. Before coming here and becoming a darned stay at home mom, my days consisted of long hours and lifting stupid heavy stuff, so lifting some stuff for a move... no problem. There are tools that make the work easier and its important to utilize them so nobody gets hurt.

Yes wonderful thing about UHaul is the one we went to to make sure we could return there allowed us to use a dolly and several other things for FREE all we had to do was sign a piece of paper stating our info on hubbys dl and our new address and what items were given to us. it made it so much easier bc while I'm young, 23 almost 24... I'm NOT built for heavy lifting. haha So it def helped us (my husband) out on the bigger things.
