My cat is very sick and is in the hospital needing emergency stomach surgery. I am trying to set up a fund to help defray the costs. I have lupus, thyroid disease, high blood pressure and have lost 9 babies. My cat has been through all this plus 2 deployments with me, he is 7 years old and ive had him since he was a kitten. Does anyone know how I can get help with paying his bills or how to set up a donation fund?
There are different routes. The quickest, easiest one is to set up a Facebook page with a PayPal link that people can use to click and donate. If you don't have a PayPal account it's fast and easy to set one up; PayPal is a preferred, fast method for most people to use.
You can also ask local businesses if you can set up coffee cans on their counters for people to put money in. This works really well, but if the cashier or business is shady you'll get ripped.
You can also try working a payment plan out with the vet, or even asking him how much of a discount he'd be willing to give.
Lastly, you can set up a table in front of Wal-Mart and solicit donations. Wal-Mart used to legally be able to stop people from doing this, but now they can't. Make a poster board with lots of pics of your kitty and sit in front of the entrance. You'll make a lot.
Thanks Tee C, i hate begging and I pride myself on being a responsible pet owner, but I feel like I have failed by not being able to afford the cost of his health care. But this caught us off guard & so quickly, I am going to look into get pet insurance after this is all said and done.
It kills me to hear all that you are going through/have gone through. Animals are like kids as well. At least we treat ours like that! It pains me to think of the future as they get older. What was the website that was used for the bus driver that got verbally abused by those kids? I think that is run by PayPal donations too. That website had all kinds of people asking for assistance for different things. I hope you get some donations coming your way. I know some places do payment plans like Tee C said. Sometimes it's hard when you don't expect that extra cost. I hope the cat is doing ok and everything works out!
I am still trying to raise money as of now i have exactly 0 dollars raised. Which really hurts because I have done so much to help my friends out in their time of need but I cant even get a dollar from them. So here is what I am thinking of doing Im thinking of making cookies and selling them by the dozen, like chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar, and oatmeal raisin. How much do you think a reasonable price would be to sell a dozen of cookies? I have never done this before so I have no clue.
Also if any of you would, would you please pass this link on. Id rather the donations go straight to the Vet but Chip in makes them go to my pay pal account.
What about having a yard sale to raise money? I have some things I could possibly donate. I finished that K-State wreath but it didn't fit with the other K-State stuff I already had for my new bathroom so I would be willing to donate it. I wish I could do more.
Awww thanks Susan , I have sold everything we have that is of value and we can live without. Yesterday I was able to make 100 towards his bill by selling the pictures that were on our walls and a few other things. Im not sure how I am going to sell the cookies, my mind is just racing and I keep thinking of ideas, ya know? I haven't slept since Sunday and I'm a wreck.
I totally get what you are going through, I can imagine. Don't make yourself sick too though. I am sorry you had to sell your stuff. Maybe we could ask for people to donate stuff for your yard sale? Just a thought. Have they told you how much they think the bill might be? How is your kitty btw?
One more thing I thought of is posting on the BST groups that are on FB. I see people doing that all of the time. Do you have a FB? If so, add me as your friend if you want. My email address is susanp68@yahoo.com
Im going to have my husband call them when he gets home from PT, I don't want to in case it is bad news. Last night he was out of it & still wouldn't eat, drink or go to the bathroom & he was still nauseated & drooling. Yes I will add you to my facebook. What is BST?
Shadow came home tonight, but I still have a huge bill. A lot of people sent me emails saying they were going to help & that they were calling the vets to put money on his bill, but sadly no one ever did. I don't understand why people must play games like that. Oh well I am just happy he is home
You can get an AER loan for it. The amount you pay back per month is small ( normally like $30-50 roughly depending on how much you get) with 0% interest. You might even be able to get a grant that you dont have to pay back. Your husband has to go through his command to get it but it would give you the money now and let you pay it back in small amounts.
Ohhhh done I didn't mean you, I meant ones that said they had already done it. People have been sending me emails all day saying they called the vets and applied money to the account. Overit. We were told we can't get aer loans for vet bills.
It is called a Commanders Referral, as long as the commmander signs it they usually dont question it. We did it for tires and for plane fare. I think the max is $800. I believe it is still issued thru AER but it is not a standard AER loan or grant.
Ah I am going to have to look into that, the vet just called and said if he doesn't eat by tomorrow morning he will need to be admitted again and have a feeding tube placed into him.
Never mind I found out why we cant get one, I called AER and asked them and she said because we have had too many AER loans in the past year (i never knew there was a limit). We had 2 of them one for 900 & one for 1500 both which were for emergency leave for when my husbands father was extremely ill and we were told he was he dying. Oh well. I am going to try and get enough stuff together to have a yard sale next weekend (Aug 3rd & 4th) to raise money towards his ever growing medical bills.
